Russell, you'd need to state what part of the county? This county is so big it takes me and 4 team members of mine to cover it.

Also, other than limited MLS participation from a few landlords, San Diego's rental market is predominately online for all to access-I'd say only 25% of the SD rentals find their way to the MLS. We have so many corporately operated rental communities here too. Unless it's high-end property for long-term or VRBO, they pay next to nothing for our time & efforts, so we tend to refer the client to the listing agent. Compared to The Bay Area, it's not much of a market for Realtors here. If your friend would like to email me his criteria I'm happy to set up a search for him/her, but 9/10 the folks I offer this to find their own properties off the FREE classified and dedicated websites that advertise rentals.

As Kathleen Daniels wrote. I suggest Next Door, CraigsList, etc. Lease listing pay so litle, most agents will not deal with them here.

I agree with thomas J nelson,   Your friends best bet it to search the web sites of the actual property management companies. Things get post there first prior to showing up on Zillow, Trulia and the other sites.  It will give him an edge in getting in there quick.  I only post the rentals on the MLS when they are more difficult to rent or unique properties, etc.  The others are just on our web site and syndicated.

Many names come immediately to my mind. However, as Thomas J. Nelson, Realtor,CRS,ePro points out - San Diego is huge and the rental market is mostly off the MLS.

It's pretty competitive for renters these days. Whoever is looking should not limit themselves to working with an agent since so much is online.

Residential REALTORS in Denver don't work with rentals, so maybe rental sites would be better.  RENTALS.com is a good one too.
