I think it is perfectly ok & complys with laws in IL. Tough if buyers or agents don't like it. The seller can do what he/she wants in their house.

My son is a high tech gadget lover. He had cameras installed at his home for sale. He will give me a link on people asking me if they are the prospects. I was surprised it recorded all conversation. This home is not made of good quality material and not in top school district. Next day I got a call from a parrot repeating what I overheard. I asked the realtor what do you mean? The agents says she will pay 80 cents on a dollar as a favor. I immediately told her that she will not survive in Silicon Valley as few agents will want to work with her. It went 11% over. The moral of the story is go outside discuss with your mouth facing away from the house.

Paul,
I love that it is being disclosed rather than hidden. Many food markets have these in the aisle, and there is a disclosure front and center. It would not bother me in the least, but I would be sure to leave my tiara at home. A

"I would have fun with it."
IF buyer KNEW they had NO INTEREST in the house, we just might make an offer in conversation with each other, and never put it on paper for the seller.
"You should offer them List Price."
"That is a great idea. That is what I should do!"
"Ok. Let's go."
Might even include a 'wink' as the door is locked.

Paul S. Henderson, CRS, REALTOR®, I just read an article where it is legal to record video in Washington State without obtaining permission. Audio on the other hand cannot be recorded without permission. I'm no lawyer, but posting this in my opinion doesn't constitute permission.
Here the article: http://www.legalmatch.com/law-library/article/babysitternanny-camera-legality.html

We are also asked to advise if audio recording is on... camera without audio does not need a disclaimer. More than likely, the home has been on market for 250 days for other reasons. Lots of our homes have cameras on and it doesn't stop them from selling.

There is a warning in our listing agreements in Virginia to home owners regarding the possible invasion of privacy issues involved with this.

Intimidating, but some sort of "disclaimer" is required by law in many states, especially for audio.

I have a theory about this kind of stuff. If I am not doing anything wrong, I have nothing to worry about. I am kind of boring that way.
This is getting to be fairly commonplace. Opendoor has cameras in all their vacant homes (I do not know about audio). It never bothered me.
I appreciate the fact that they are warning you. I am sure there are many sellers that do not.
I guess if it really upsets you, you can "moon" the camera. That might make it all worthwhile. Just be careful you don't include any audio.

Well knowing what some agents have done at empty houses I'd love to see the video! Be careful a spiteful owner could put it out (no pun!) on Facebook. You'd have some big explaining to do!

I'm not one to "feel" particularly photogenic - believing there are "cameras" and "listening devices" everywhere may be helpful to everyone even those without conspiracy theory tendencies.
5,868,554
At least they are giving notice, but sure would make me and most likely the buyers a bit creepy.

Oh geeze. That is just creepy. I would probably do carzy things in that house.

We always assume we are being monitored when visiting a listed home. No problem; there must be other issues why the home has not sold.

I think some homeowners use this as an excuse to listen in and it isn't just about security. We agents must let our buyers know that this is a real possibility on every showing. Seeing it posted is a good reminder.
