I talked to Chase this week and they said they are no longer offering HAFA sales. It is hard to know who to believe. I think Congress is still forgiving the debt (no IRS) and banks are not going after deficiencies.

I thought HAFA was done, but Sam Shueh has some thoughts. Wonder what our short sale expert Elizabeth Weintraub Sacramento Real Estate Agent, Top 1% of Lyon Agents has to say

I thought HAFA died on December 31, 2016.
I read Sam Shueh's link, but I don't see anything about 2017, other than HAFAs that are currently in progress must close by September 30, 2017.
BTW, the article is from Elizabeth Weintraub Sacramento Real Estate Agent, Top 1% of Lyon Agents . Maybe she can clarify.

I do not think HAFA is still around, i at least have not seen any since last year. Most short sales i have got are raw, meaning i have to do it all. I have hat a couple of Fannie short sales , where fannie would pre approve a price and the seller, bt they are still in process, nothing to report yet good or bad, just slower than a short sale without fannie or freddie.

Looks like it may be hot or miss depending upon who you talk to at the bank. Not all on the same wave length.

The program is alive and well.
HOWEVER, our friends at BANK OF AMERICA has perverted the system to divert those dollars to first time home buyers, NOT to help folks stay in their home. How can they do that? Because they are too big to fail.
Attorneys are advertising HAFA specialty here in my region of Florida. There must be tertiary dollars involved shielded from public view.
A short sale after HAFA means the ability to meet obligations, by one who is underemployed, did not exsit. What are the benefits? It really depends on the situation of the owner. That is why a speicalist is advisable. Everyone comes out good.....except the afflicted.

Yes as far as I know but it depends where the note is held. Last person received $9000 which I thought was excessive. In IL, sellers attorney makes sure that is one of the primary reasons for short sale.

According to this article sellers can get paid $10,000.00 doing a 2017 HAFA short sale.

Control over the process of losing a home. It's that simple. If someone is headed to foreclosure, the ramifications are nearly identical. Having control over the process of what your home is selling for (so you can minimize the deficiency judgment) or even attempting to get the deficiency waived, is important. It also gives control to the sellers who know when they will need ot move, vs. getting a notice the auction is in 30 days and they have to be out that day.
HAFA made it easier because there was no negoitation, but banks will still forgive deficiencies. We are doing them favors by getting homes in default sold before they become inventory to them.

HAFA is over. If a file is already in process, meaning the offer has been submitted to the bank and the short sale process started prior to 2017, you need to finish it by September, but no new files are accepted.
There are still government short sales such as Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, which pay relocation incentives, and a few other banks will also pay. I just closed a short sale with WF and WF gave $3K to the seller.

I did so many short sales in the down turn, I hope I don't see another any time soon. Good luck to you.

HAFA ended in December, 2016 but files in existence prior to that date should be processed.

I never worked a HAFA and I think it's done. I've worked on over 200 short sales, none were HAFA.

You need to call the lender and ask. A well qualified accountant would be helpful as well. You can also go to the government pages and determine the status. Always Always Always go to the source for verification/validation of FACTS.
