They don't have to be good at matching. Hire an expert who is good at making these decisions.

Many people don't have a knack for his, Jeff. When I choose colors for a house,  I start by seeing what is next door and eliminating that color then select the color palette I like, starting with the brick and siding, then match the roof, then trim and shutters and door color comes last.

In my experience, no.  Most are neither good at it nor have confidence in their decisions.  It's worth it to hire an expert.  And, this has always been a way that I've been able to set myself apart.

No, but I know there are 'colorists' that are good at that stuff. If people were good at it we would not have bright blue & pink houses would we?

I just helped a friend with new construction & I wizzed right thru the choices.

I wouldn't do that to myself.

I decide on the theme and go with professional advice from my interior designer/stager and then do as my bride decides.

Most people are not good at it. I, personally, am quite good at it. You need to reduce your options up front. There have to be colors in these options that you hate without even thinking about them. Do you need me to help you?

Wow - those colors are a broad spectrum, not even in the same color family!

I am in the process of picking a new color for my home office. Sort of. I'm dreading going to the store and being faced with all those choices. I think I want to do grey. But it's not that simple!

Only those? I thought, there are hundreds choices. If the seller has difficulties with colors, I recommend a recommendation from a stagger ( I offer it complementary for my sellers in such situations). 

But this morning we picked up colors for 'listed soon'' house quick since I follow popular trends in my area.

Dear dear Jeff-it appears you are out of your league here. Hire a designer and tell them the color fields you like and hand over all that material. They will work out like 3 options and you just pick one-done!

PS-the roof color is very important.

Ask for tiny small sample of the paint - less than a quart if possible. Paint flat white where this is going, allow to dry a day then paint and label the samples. Ask family and friends for a vote. Give the decision a couple days.

I see you marked colonial reed- don't know where that choice is going but I would accent with a warm cream, perhaps a gloss black or green that is almost black gloss, and a grey that is slate grey with both red and green in the grey

Although I'm not color-blind like my Dad was, I leave it up to Kat with the color choices!

Yikes!  No, I stick with two color combo pallets that work very well out here.

that's what home decorators are for....most good paint stores will have one there for that purpose....

Most people do not know colors or matching. Thankfully I learned it at a very young age.

It's certainly overwhelming, Jeff Pearl!  Many folks hire a designer for color selections - it can be money well-spent, for sure!

Those that can make sense out of it stand-out while those that cannot don't

The ROOF! Now pick the house and trim that are appropriate.

It's not rocket science, unless you need it to be.
