As long as it is only pet fur stink there is really no problem as a shampoo on both the dog & carpet will do the trick. Urine & stuff - nastier stuff obviously. There are new odor-air-changing-molecular-ozone bombs that I would use. Can't think of the name of them but they are like a cup of soup in which you pour water & then a gas starts coming out. You exit the building at that part.  Come back later & voila no-el-stinko. Works for curry so this should be easy.

If it's just topical/fur, you can try professional carpet cleaning.  I think they may have some specialty items to help with this. Note: it may only be a temporary fix. 

If it's urine, the only solve is to rip up the carpet and carpet cushion (as it will be in the carpet cushion.  Usually the plywood is okay as it gets stuck in the carpet pad (but occasionally, we needed to replace a piece or two of plyood (which is much better than Kilz).

Also, you may need to eliminate all other upholstery items (e.g. sofas, pillows, window treatments, etc.

Can't help but looks like you got some good ideas. Hopefully no pee or that rug has to go, and perhaps treat the sub-floor

If it is just sweat then pet odor eliminator spray will work, as will and ozone machine.

If it has lots of urine then tear up the floor.

Professional cleaned...with a truck mount that actually sucks out the dirt.

Sears and Stanly Steamer seem to be the best.  They may charge extra for spraying it down and removing odor.

a professional cleaning company should be able to handle that.... if not, cut the carpet in that corner and replace with tile.....small job.... will look great with a large ceramic pot and plant....

Better dogs than cats but try to have the carpet professionally cleaned to see what odor might be left. Other than that replace it.

Professionally clean the carpet. Have the house cleaned with ozone, but that might be more expensive than replacing carpet.

I plan to use OdorX and Febreze in my van this weekend, thankfully I'm potty trained.

We recently had a stinky unit and after repainting, heavy cleaning, changing filters, running HEPA ozone machines and steam cleaning carpets the stink continued. We bought a product called OdorX and left it in the unit for a week to 10 days. Odor was gone.

My hubby just cleaned our carpet with a shampoo specifically for pet odors.  That seemed to help!

I have used a Ozone machine it  works.

I would seek the advice of a professional.

Call in the professionals although it may be too late and the flooring may need to be replaced depending on the severity of the issue.  Good luck.  

Not much will help with the dog still in the house...confining him/her to one area ? While the rest is treated with special pet carpet odor penetration treatment ?

There is a product that uses live bacteria to eat on any kind of dropings of dog and cat and once gone it dies with no trace.

Would carpet shampooing help, or if not, a professional carpet/tile cleaning company, that knows a dog has been an issue in a certain area?  At least it's not dog urine . . .  oy!  People can smell that 'a mile away' as they say, Fred Griffin.  So if the obvious doesn't work, maybe carpet replacement is in order.  Now is the 'front corner of the house' in the living room, or an entry way?  That would certainly determine if carpet replacement would be in a room or just an open area.  I wonder if the oder has gotten down into the plywood . . .

Have they had a professional cleaner come in? If that doesn't work try googling it, might be idea's on there to help.

Now WHO was the landlord that allowed dogs in the rental? Carpet has to go. Bleach and repaint. Redo the floors with something other than carpet. Make the long term investment and not the short term bandaid. No more dogs, unless they buy the place.

Many local carpet cleaners offer specials on pet related damages. But I personally do not believe in removing urine odor without removing the carpet staff. 

How about deep cleaning the carpet?

A deep carpet cleaning would be in order.  Usually fixes most smells.

What creates the sweaty  odor is the paraffin from the dogs coat of hairs. 

However if the odor is due to various forms of other body excretions,  going cheap will cost more.

You say it  smells like sweat NOT like crap. 
That's is good, clean and paint and of course, remove dog or have dog groomed monthly.

Likely as suggested a good carpet cleaning company. A black light (used when dark) helps to identify pee stains. And there's also an ionizer machine out there that you can rent and it takes the smell out of the air.

I sold a house like this last year - it took 2 full cleanings by professionals and there was still an odor.

I also just got rid of a tenant with this problem this month...
