I remember one time my Dad sent his physician a bill for his time spent in the waiting room, making him have to reschedule his later appointments.

He was quite upset that the physician didn't think my Dad's time was as valuable as his!

And, yes, I do get irked when someone makes me wait!  I come from a military family where if you're not 15 minutes early, you're LATE!

It is disrespectful. If someone is going to be late, common courtesy requires a call be made to notify the person waiting. But far better - don't be late!

Yes, I agree. Being on time is part of being professional. It also helps in being referred by people for more business. 

and the worst part is when people continue to use him....  there is no negative reinforcement.... he needs to learn his lesson, but he probably won;t

Yes, unless there's a really good reason for it, I find it very rude and disrespectful when someone doesn't value my time as much as their own.

I tend to get irked about a lot of things but don't dwell there for long.

People being late is one of my few peeves. I think it's disrespectful to my time and value.

I had a chimney company who was supposed to be at my house between 8-12. At 11:45 I called. No answer; it went to voice mail. I left a message that it was almost 12 and at 12 I was leaving - please call my cell phone. I went out and was back a few hours later and there was a message on my home voice mail that they would be a little late. They still weren't there. 

Guess who did not get the job of cleaning out the chimney.

Paul - Yes, that would irk me as well. Sometimes people think nothing of doing a half a _ _ ed job, or showing up late, and still expecting you to be happy and pay their full price.

Yes!!! It is one of my pet peeves... In your case Paul, I would have called the company supervisor and asked for a price reduction on their minimum fee. Your time is just as valuable as his, and as a result of  his technician being late, it made you late for your appointment.

To be late is ride and inconsiderate of others time.

Waited at BOA with 35 customers for 45 mintues with 2 tellers. Rest 10 are sitting chatting having a good time.  Where is service quality at Bank of America?

Yes. I can't stand when people are late.  I try my best to be early.  Time is the one commodity none of has any more than anyone else. Therefore when you are late you are telling that person that you feel your time is more important than there's.

It happens all of the time.

Everyone in any type of technician type place like this does it, I once sent a bill to the DMV for wasting my time.

They did not pay it, but it did get me an apology.

I think he thinks you are lucky he even showed up. At least that seems to be the attitude of tradesmen today. They often forget that you pay their wages.

Some people just do not appreciate other people's time. I would say not to hire him again for the future. In this business both knowledge and service count.

Paul I have some patience but..... Recently one person that does some work for us had been constantly changing times and days and I finally said - enough.  It was so disruptive to our schedules.

Yes, we are programmed to be so time conscious that those that disregard it really bug me. That goes customers and clients that waste our time and are continually late for appointments.

You have to take your own time seriously upfront ... if they don't do so at that point... its time to have a direct conversation and if nothing transpires end the connection

I think many do not respect other people's time, especially for those on a definite schedule.

This is definitely one of my pet peeves.  I respect other people's time and I want them to respect mine.  Unless I hear from them informing me they'll be late, I give them a small courtesy window then leave.   My dentist did this to me once.  I informed the receptionist that my time is valuable too, and I was leaving.  They sent me flowers and asked for a reschedule.    

I charge late fees.

If you want to see me lose it, waste my time.

I warn them when they are going to be late and I have an appointment that they will either have to reschedule or I will bill them for my service

Most definitely!  Things do happen but that's what phones are for... let me know!  And while we're on the topic of taking my time seriously, my time is not to be used for repeat upon repeat visits to a house we're under contract on too...  Show your family, take your measurements, etc when we're there for inspections.  I'm not missing dinner again so you can show the bridge club.
