I keep my clients out of  bad deals.

If they weren't my client, but my friend, I'd be empathetic. There's no love in "I told you so".

Depending on the situation and how well I might know a client, if they are heading towards a bad decision and ignore my best advice, I jokingly warn them that I'll be a big "I told you so" when things do go wrong. In reality, I don't do it, however, as by the time things go wrong they are usually already kicking themselves and why kick someone who's already down? At that point it's up to me to help them solve the problem.

Working the exprired lists i see many would be sellers who made poor choices from listing with the person who gave them the highest price to the discount alley to trying themselves. I do not say i told you so, but often tell them what i can do to help and get the listing the second time around

If someone asks me an opinion, I would point out that they knew the risks and were blinded by the greed.  However, if no opinion asked, I would withhold any such opinion.   We all get blinded by greed at some point in our lives.  No need to be condescending and imply that you told them so.

When you're thinking of

I would never tell anyone "I told you so". Most people feel bad enough when they make that dumb mistake.

Last year I was working with a buyer who fell in love with a house, but refused to come up to the seller's counter offer. We were off by $5000. After missing out on that deal, my buyer lamented about it for quite awhile. They kept telling me how they should have listened to me, but now regretted not doing so. They felt plenty bad without me pointing out I was right.

Happy ending - we found a home that they loved even more than the other and they were happy to pay more for it!

When you spend your free time rescuing people from a "bad deal" they got themselves into on a canyon road or on a trail, you have to have empathy, a thick skin and a dark sense of humour.

We give advice all the time and much of it gets ignored.  The clients that have chosen to work with someone else often make a catastrophic mistake by doing so.  Unfortunately for them they are stuck in the bed they made.  We could be an "I told you so" but instead we just feel bad for them and helpless to correct the situation.

It depends on who it is. If it was a close friend that is in turn compassionate to others I would say nothing but just listen. If the person was the office bully, well that's another thing entirely & would not let up on the looser I told you so.
