I moved my files and photos to a stick and then plugged stick in new computer and moved them over. Not professional but worked. 

I have worked with PC's even before DOS or Windows were the settled standards Tony and Suzanne Marriott, Associate Brokers . I guess I just know that anything I can "create" I can recreate.

Circling for the answer to this one. I really do not think you can, but let's see what others have to say on this!

If you use Chrome or Firefox you can sync via the cloud.  For Internet Explore there is a favorites file somewhere that you can copy or export.  Go to YouTube and there will be a tutorial.

Wish I could help here, Suzanne and Tony... I have my computer "guru" do all that for me whenever I change computers.

I have done it in the past by using a backup drive. I have had technicians do it by connecting the two computers together.

Depends on what browser you're using.  With FireFox for example, you can setup a FireFox cloud account and have your bookmarks sync over all your devices.  All browsers have an "export bookmarks" function.  Export them, then copy/email the file to your new system and use the "import bookmarks" function.

Personal settings have been more of a setup each time thing for me.  Personal documents I usually just copy over the network from one system to the next.

beyond my paygrade....

I put them all in a folder, and use EasyTransfer to move everything over. They don't all go over easily but it's a huge step in the right direction.

I've done it many times with a backup ... and like Nina Hollander - I have a tech person do it.  

The techies do it for me! But, I think they used a transfer cable to do it the last time!

Can't you use some kind of a cloud?  I do all of that with Apple's iCloud, and i'm guessing there are lots of PC equivalents.

See if new computer comes with program called :"Windows Easy Transfer", or PCmover by Laplink.

I would have this done by my wife, Dolores, or our tech support person.

I move all my documents and photos into separate files and put them in my Dropbox then just copy to the new computer.

Most new pc's come with a move app, but I generally do it the manual way and find the settings  backup file for my programs and browsers. Look for an "export" button in each program.

Here are some methods:

• Back up on an external drive, then transfer.

• Laplink cable (or any USB cable with transfer software).

• Xmarks for bookmarks transfer.

 ** Old school - you should take a screen shot of your favorites, history, bookmarks, etc. "just in case" you botch the backup or the transfer.

It is real easy...I just have my tech guy work on it

When you get the new computer you just go to that program. Very easy but I do not know what it is called. Something like file transfer.

I copy them over or recreate them depending on a variety of factors.

Depending on what software you have, you can request this electronically

I would think this would need to be redone on the new PC.

I use Google Chrome so my favorites and browse history is available on any computer when I log into the browser.

I use my external hard drive

There is a folder - just copy it
