I suggest you make an effort to blog a few and have them on your website.  It took me 750 hours and endless blogging to get a free account. But they gave me a break when I had around 20,000 pts. I got the free account after just 1 year of subscribtion.

The main benefit is that the public can read your posts, and other members can reblog your posts.  so if you are a Realtor and want to attract clients, they can actually find yo.  If, however, you are trying to market a service to Realtors and loan officers, it might not be quite crucial to be a rainmaker.

There you go - the main advantage is everything you write is public and could be indexed by Google and other search engines. Otherwise the only viewers are AR members who are not likely going to be buying and selling from you, but remain a good referral source or recipient.

I joined ActiveRain with a free account years ago but never used it. Last year I decided to start blogging until I realized my blogs were not indexed by search engines and basically invisible to the public unless I pointed them directly to my blog. A couple weeks ago I was reading someone's blog and learned that a professional account is free after earning 500,000 points!

I upgraded my account so I can be indexed and I am working hard to earn points towards my discounted/free account. The best part? My blogs are indexed! I wrote an article on a new rental listing and within 24 hours it was #2 in a Google search for a rental home in my town. That's nice!

Like many have said, your blogs will be visible to the public.  Depending on how often you wish to blog, you should decide between the monthly or the annual plan.

I did the annual plan because I had planned on just posting listings.  A few months later I got the bug and decided to do market blogs as well.  I have a competitive nature and once I found out that memberships are free once you have 500,000 points, I put the afterburners on and got my free membership right as the paid one ran out.  I wish I had done the month to month though, as there is a price break at every 100,000 points.  I'd have paid far less doing M2M than Annual in the long run.

Rainer to Rainmaker is like coming out of the closet.

As a RAINER, only those locked in the closet with you see your blogs.

As a RAINMAKER, Active Rain 'allows' your blogs to found and appear in big Gs search results.

What YOU should do depends on what you want to achieve. As you know linking your website to an authority site, to link the content of your WordPress blog to AR are all beneficial, just like linking to .gov or .edu websites.

If your websites needs amplification, then getting out of the rainer closet is a good idea.
