Remembering but not celebrating.

For 5 months my barracks was 150 feet from the AZ memorial. Taps was indeed sad each day...

Richard we watched a very good documtary on Pearl Harbor last weekend and learned a lot that we never learned in school.   I didn't know that at the time the military was ranked 14th in the world nor that we were an isolation nation until I watched that documentary. Gary read Killing the Rising Sun and we've had many conversations about the content......pretty gruesome time.

Maybe I'll watch the movie again!

No I didn't know we were ranked 14 in the nation at that time..hard to believe.

I attended a leadership conference today. I did not know that about our military and thought it was one of the best at the time.

No celebrating, but it was interesting reading alot of the stories posted to day. 

Richard, it is good to know that many people are aware of the anniversary, and it is a time of remembrance and solemn reflection for the great loss of life among our sailors, Marines, soldiers, naval and army aviators, and civilians.

Thinking of my Dad today as the day after the attack he went early to the US Navy recruiting center in Cleveland, and by 7 A.M. he found the line six and a half blocks long of patriotic men answering the call to defend their nation.

He waited all day in line and had to come back later that week before he could get into the recruitment office to enlist.  

Cleveland Rocks!

I did not know that about the military ranking - really surprised to hear this. Not surprised about the isolation nation. My father is still alive and is a WWII vet. I will talk with him about his service today/tomorrow.

I am watching the news. My wife's father was at Pearl Harbor and his ship got out.

Let's hope we can at least climb back to that position in the first 100 days after Obama

Can't say I "celebrated." I did know we were isolationist in our policies at that time. But I did not know we were ranked 14th in terms of military strength.

I'll pass on this one. Major holidays are coming and preparations for that is taking all my time.

What was the standard of living in 1941 as compared to today?

Did eveyone one have two jobs?

My wedding anniversary

I did know from US History that we were an isolationist nation after WWI.  Many felt we had no place "policing the world" (just as today with the UN) and with the Great Depression happening many wanted to focus on the problems at home and ignore the war way over there in Europe.

This of course, gives rise to the slew of WW2 conspiracy theories.

We don't celebrate this day in our great country.
