Lots of folks, most stayed put, rather than become victims of the price gougers. I know Florida's Attorney General is already commencing actions against several retailers for hotel and fueling.

Hundreds actually.  Some have evacuated and some are headed into the storm areas to work.... including my husband.

I'm guessing a lot of our Florida blog buddies who post those gorgeous sunrise photos that make me jealous!  I hope they all got out of the way.  Matthew sounds a little scary.

My brother and his wife evacuated and went to stay with my son and daughter in law. How convenient.

I have many family members living in Jacksonville, Florida.  I spoke with my Aunt this afternoon and was told that the beach areas are closed, power is out and it is really windy and raining and the pool water is splashing out.  Everyone is safe and the storm isn't as strong as they feared.

Several AR member friends, nice that many of them checked in on fb to let us know that they are ok.

I do not personally, but it seems quite a few Rainers are in the path.

Yes, our hurricane warning was just lifted this morning at 10:30. We had big winds last night around 2 a.m. and lots of rain. We got our shutters up on Wednesday and brought in all our patio furniture and planted pots. It was a full days of work for us 3 to do. Our bishop from our church came to help us with the shutters. I baked our bread, filled up our water jugs, etc. Nestor put sand bags all around our patio doors since we have a pool. We had a few power surges but our power stayed on. At the last minute before landfall, this MONSTER veered to the east just enough to put us out of danger. We appreciate all the prayers in our behalf. We pray for all the people of Haiti and the Bahamas.

There are many ActiveRain members I follow.  It's interesting how this forum has given me a new awareness when I hear a name of a city/community mentioned and it makes me think of someone I have "met" here.  

I do know many, both in business and personal. I am happy to have heard from many who have gotton through the worst in South Florida. I have friends in the Bahamas though i have not heard from yet
