I haven't done those magazines in at least 10 years... when I stopped it didn't impact my bottom line by one penny (except that I was spending less on advertising) in terms of new business. Occassionally, I put in an ad at $55 for their internet exposure, but can't say it brings in business.

Sometimes it is hard to admit when the show is done and it it time to go home.
Much of print media is in this pattern, spending their last dime in an effort to get back on top.
The smart publishers sold out and retired a decade ago.

I believe print ad is going the way of the dinosaurs. Agents who still use it do it because their sellers want it. However, when a good listing agent explains that their marketing dollars go into internet exposure where the actual buyers are looking, sellers usually accept this.

We still have these in my area, but I can't imagine actually using them. Seems so outdated and costly in the age of free and instant advertising.

Michael,
It works in some community not others that may be in the same state or city. It is a matter of understanding your marketplace. A

Michael J. Perry I believe it is only used to pacify the seller.

Apparently, the folks advertising don't see the value anymore. 10 years ago, 100+ pages. 5 years ago 75% of that? Hmmmmmm . . . pretty much says it all.

It likely depends on the market. I don't see them in our area as much as in the past.

In Denver, by the time the magazine is printed, the homes are under contract.

By the time it come sout, all my listings are sold. It does get your name out but causes anger having to tell everyone they are sold now

Michael J. Perry - I have never used it in my career.
And some agents have found it useful.
What do you think?

There are many reasons why people advertise in print magazines. Whether it is effective and produces ROIs depends upon your specific goals and objectives.

No, they never were very good as they came out 4-6 weeks after the ad was placed and many times it was to late.

I think Homes magazines are out of date since most people search online to for propety now, the do not provide a good ROI!

We have not done the home magazines since 2008. When the market here tanked, we went into short sale mode, which would not benefit from home mags, and never returned.

If it has a vital and local online component then maybe but most are not vital.

Hi Michael - We stopped advertising in those 8-9 years ago. I haven't even seen one in years. Maybe they're still in grocery stores, etc. but they don't seem to be everywhere the way they used to.

No & I consider that the same as print. You are correct about the abrupt 'downsizing' of the magazine. It's pretty pathetic. Never got any leads after years doing it in in the old days.

I have seen the Home Magazine though have never advertised in it, so I don't know the ROI associated with that publication. What I saw in it, were alot of Luxury Homes advertised though Michael J. Perry - so if that was your niche, it might be something to do research on.

YES.
But not for everyone.
Take a look at who IS advertising in those pubs. Are they all to dumb to get out of the rain?
I am more likely to believe these heavy hitters have a reason more important than ROI for being omni-present.

Magazines are falling off in popularity. That said, they work better in some markets than others. I was never much of a fan even with they looked like phone books!

I moved to Dallas in 2007, and have never seen one of those magazines here.
