Radon is not a big concern in our area and especially for builders. Their houses are moving so fast. Very few homes have basements and the ones that do have walkout basements so ventilation is easy to do. Usually only relo buyers or those people moving from up north even ask the question.

Since we do not have basements I am guessing no. We rarely even test for it but it has been found in some areas where they built on top of the Everglades years ago.

No I don't believe so. Actually, I'm going to check from now on.

But if they do ... isn't it just a step into the unknown by saying that they know it is there? Never knew anyone to provide for it based on the 'maybe it might be there' theory.

Great question as there are pockets in our area where it's pretty much a given.

Not really... we are not very prone to radon and also don't built in-ground basements.

Not that I've seen. The only rough ins I usually see are for a bath in the basement, and occasionally a foundation for a future fireplace/chimney.

We're generally a 1-2 zone out here.  I haven't heard of this and have no clue if it's done out here.  Only had one person ever ask about radon.

Barbara Todaro When I worked residental real estate, I only had one buyer test for Radon. My seller put in a Radon Mitigation System and it closed. Radon is not a mandatory test in my State. I am not aware if it being done with new construction, but it is a good idea since we do have Radon in our area.

Radon is not an issue in our market but the liability business is big in California.  I don't know the answer to your question but radon is mentioned in our Natural Hazard Disclosure report that is included as a part of our state real estate purchase agreement and related documents.

No as radon is not an  issue in our area. I just taught a class and radon was one topic to cover. Not one agent had heard of any radon issues ever....nor have any of our inspectors. Except......for one house about an hour north in the mountains and it has a basement.

Depends on builder and price range. A few builders also install French drains or similar system in basement depending on soil type and propensity to water problems in area

Hi Barbara - It's pretty common here, and a few municipalities require them on new construction. We see over-EPA results on about 15% of the homes tested.

Maryland is known for increased levels and I have noticed systems in place in case it is needed. You don't need a basement to have an elevated level of radon. I have seen it in homes built on slab and also in a ground level condo.
