Some owners would not show their home on Easter Sunday. After we all had Easter brunch with our families I went to show my clients 3 homes and we wrote an offer that night on one of the homes. We are still friends to date. Mission Viejo home on Estancerio. They still live there. 💙

My first year in real estate I showed a home on Thanksgiving to a family relocating who had to move quickly. We closed 30 days later.  I made it to my family's home in time for dinner, but never showed on Thanksgiving Day again.

Sold my first house on Labor Day 1994 after being licensed the month before.  I have also written offers that closed for property I showed on Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, 4th of July, Memorial Day and I showed property on New Year's Day once, but they didn't make an offer.

I don't recall showing properties on the holidays, but I remember being at a client's home with them signing an offer on Christmas Eve.  The sellers were really impressed that I was working.  They became a little less impressed when the buyer's agent called while they were signing because it showed that he was working, too.

I've closed a few properties on the last business day of the year.

In western Pennsylvania there is a lot of real estate sold during the summer holiday weekends, Memorial Day, July 4 and Labor Day.  The July 4th holiday usually extends the weekend before, after and on the 4th.

My first year in business I wrote an accepted contract on the afternoon of Christmas Eve.  My family was dressed & ready for church services when I arrived home, all smiles & high fives.

I actually had a listing shown on Christmas Day. Two Doctors wanted to see my listings and their agent pleaded with me to allow the house to be shown. I told her to call the Sellers and ask them but before that I told her I felt her clients were extremely selfish to ask her to actually show them property on Christmas Day.

On another note, I sold a first timer a home in our very competitive marketplace during Thanksgiving week--actually two days BEFORE Thanksgiving. It normally would have drawn multiple offers but we were the ONLY offer  and the sellers had purchased another house on the contingncy of sellling this one! My client lucked out and got the home. Also, she had one smart Realtor who knew to strike while the iron was hot and the other agents where chomping on their turkey!

It's not my practice to do that but it also depends on the market.  I had an agent show my vacant listing on Christmas Day, she submitted the offer to me on that same day and we did make it to closing.  But I tell my buyers I am not working on holidays, or holiday weekends.  I'm available 7 days a week the rest of the year.
