Most states publish online list of disciplinary actions on monthly basis. I read a few to my pre license students each month prior to chapter on law

What happens is usually not much.
For evey 100 infractions, maybe 1 complaint...and then they get a slap on the wrist and a fine...not any big deal

Failure to present an offer, so that the Listing Agent could get "both sides". The Seller found out when a disappointed Buyer called the Seller directly to find out why his offer was not countered.
The Listing Agent was reported to the Real Estate Commission, reported to the Ethics Committee of the Board, terminated by his employing Broker. There may have been a civil suit.

Camilla, many of your readers are not in fiduciary states. Ask your instructor to explain the difference.

Camilla Granasen Our real estate board also publishes a newsletter with a list of infractions. A lot of these people were heavly fined and some lost their real estate license.

Every month our state real estate commission publishes a list of agents who did not follow the rules. What happened could be a reprimand, a fine, loss of license, or a combination of those disciplinary actions.

it happens more than i like to think. it is usually to preserve what they see as their self interest. it seldom works out best. there is a reason that we have a fiduciary duty. it is what makes us a pro....or not !!

I try to concentrate on the positive sides of our industry. Of course, you can find a list of offenders and offenses from the California Bureau of Real Estate.

There are many agents that put their own self interest above that of the client. Sometimes they get caught and sometimes not.

I was on professional standards for several year and we saw a number of violations (other than ethics), but given the number of agents the complaints were very few and far between

Oh, you mean like the time when a buyer's agent dropped off a BLANK FORM to the escrow officer and told her to fill it in and get the buyer's signature on it, while he was en route to the airport on his way to Vegas?!?

It can be something small like the agent saying "Bring all offers" on the MLS. It is implied that the seller is getting pretty desperate and I think this undermines the fiduciary role we have with our seller. Don't think these phrases are "fined" but I think they should be.

A recent one that comes to mind was when an agent tried pushing our mutual buyers into a home that wasn't right for them (repairs beyond what they coudl reasonably handle). Agent pushed too hard, and the "buyers" eventually rented instead. Agent lost the deal, and when they do buy, they won't be using her.
