I have not, but now you know why when I sell my house we will all be moving into a rental. No way no how is anybody getting the chance to let my dog out. And cats? Are you kidding me? They are genius flight risks. I also had a listing once for 10 min. where the POS people left their sweet little dog in the house all day and he walked around crying the whole time. It didn't try to escape, but I just hated those people.

OK, even worse? Once I had a cat swoop in when I opened the door. I didn't think these sellers even had a cat! There was no litter box, no cat hair anywhere, no food or water dish. And I couldn't find the little guy!
Talk about a panic attack!

No, but animals generally are no problem for me. The cats shy away from me because they can see I am carnivorously hungry and the dogs stay put hoping I will share.

A long time ago and I can't recall the buyer's reaction -- the cat was corralled.
I'm not a fan of those instructions.

Fortunately, we have never let a dog or cat out, and we are huge animal lovers Fred Griffin. I don't want to be responsible for having to 'be aware'of someone's pet, so in a cage or kennel would be my exact response - I hear you!!

DON'T LET THE DOGS OUT .. woof, woof, woof, woof! Oh yeah, and a cat too! Meow!!!!!! Well it was amazing but my clients and I went on a scavenger hunt and found, captured and returned the sweet animal child to it's home surroundings, and then made a huge sigh of relief. Messed up the showing, but we had oh so much stressful fun! How do I feel about it? I think Seller's should be more considerate of the people who are showing their homes and the buyers who are previewing the home and make it so that we can concentrate on why we are there. We are not paid to doggie sit. (oh and I Love dogs!) So I don't want you to take this wrong. Here are my doggies whom I love with a passion. But would never leave in my house for someone else to have to worry about if I was selling my home. Just sayin'

I did this two weeks ago, and was mortified. The instructions even said that small dog was an escape artist.

Thankfully, I have never let an animal escape from a home.
However, as a dog socializer at the human society, a dog or two managed to get by me and take off running. Thankfully, there is a code for that ... a team of people help, and the dog is captured. It's actually kinda funny.

If the pet is outside, I don't go out there. If it's inside the house, I probably won't show it.

Never let one escape, but have seen instructions to let dogs out on deck; did, but not before one of the dogs peed right on the homeowners' nice dining room table leg.

Yes I did let a cat out but caught it right away.
I also let a cat it while holding an open house and found out from the owner that it was the neighbor's cat!
I hate those instructions and don't feel we should have that responsibility!

Fred,
One time it happened when we were out of town and our house was being shown. The room the cats were in was perfectly visible from the sliding glass doors outside. The agent did not follow instructions, there was a sign as big as life on the door! Our cats were indoor/outdoor trained, and our neighbor (Keeper of the keys) brought them back in. A

Fred Griffin Never happened to me. I did show a home once where there was a sign on the bedroom door to not let the cat out. We didn't look inside.

Yes, a cat did successfully bolt for the door and found liberty in the outside expanses.
However, the escape was enable the the OWNER who opened the door and fluffy was humming "I gotta get outta this place!" and flashed through the legs of the visitors. The owner vacated the house while I toured with the buyers. Never saw owner or cat again.

So far, knock on wood, I haven't had a problem. I think it's a real pain when sellers expect you to watch their pet while we show the house. Some cats hang around, others are afraid & bolt.
I did show a house once where in the Master there was this knocking noise in the room. Both the buyers & I kept looking at each other like whaaa? Turned out it was a hysterial & shaking Doberman hiding under the bed. They had hardwood floors which was making the knocking noise lol.

One little dog escaped and eventually got him back, but if the dog is prone to escape, a kennel, or locked room, or doggy gates or take for a walk or ride were ll options the seller had to consider after this.

Great pics here Fred!
Unfortunately we had a tragedy when one of our dogs got out on the day we moved into our current home a few years back. My sons dog made it half way back to our old home before meeting an SUV.
It is important to keep them inside.

Working with a buyer last year. Instructions said, Don't let dog outside. The buyer brought their 4 yr old son. He and his Mother did let the dog outside in back. I searched for doggy treats and finally got that little dog back inside. I prefer people to make arrangements for their pets to be out or in a kennel.
