No, not mine. Not a fan of the team concept, but that's just me. I will just have help behind the scenes, sorta like the "Wizard", but without the drape!

It's likely that many associates have that impression but it has taken me years to shake that thought. My team consists of independent insurers, attorneys, title companies, home inspectors., closing agents, lenders. plumbers, painters, roofers and more. None of these affiliates are on my payroll but they always earn a piece of business from me when I need them and they're always on time!

I think it is natural to think about it and consider it. Teams don't work in every situation and some agents are just better solo.

I see a lot of advantages to teams, but they have to be set up well, and I would want to make darn sure the other members are in it for the long haul. At this point in my career, I prefer to go it alone.

I agree with Joe, I think it is dependant on your niche, market, split, and skill set as a leader.

What are your goals in the real estate business is one question you should ask your self.

Good morning. Each person is different, some may feel they want to go it alone, others just the opposite. I have two full time assistants, they allow me to continue to grow my practice.

Some people are born entrepreneurs. Entreprenuers seek to innovate and create and increase profits. Sometimes that works for a team and sometimes it does not. Building a team takes leadership skills and an understanding of how people interact with one another. We have built teams in real estate and in other businesses. In 2005 we started our own brokerage after many many years with other companies. Now we build our agents. They are independent agents. So we don't do the team thing any longer. However, we do have a large virtual assistant team that is a part of our "team". Team can mean different things to different people. It is all relative.

I don't want to be on a team or lead one. I'm a little bit of a lone ranger. When clients hire me, they get me.
I know the team concept is popular and works well for those who embrace it, but it's not for me.

teams are in demand by potential home sellers.... they like that concept....and building a "solid team" is a slow process.... it took me two years to develop mine and we were "top dog" in the RE/MAX of New England rankings for a decade....

ONLY, if you have more leads than you can handle that are coming in predominately from referrals and sign calls, not purchased online "leads".
You need the leads before you build the team. Biggest mistake out there, building a team before you have the leads to support the team.

I can say that of late it seems that way. When I started there were no teams now it seems like the rage. Personally I like having a partner with go to lenders, closing agents, attorneys, printers, etc. in the periphery.

Yes, of course, the more experience you have, the easier for you to share your skills and delegating, focus on the most productive parts of your business.

Some agents are natural born entrepreneurs and business builders. Most are not. It takes a special skillset to lead a team or brokerage. You have to always be motivated and have your eye on the big picture and know exactly where you're heading.

Because of James Dray. I will be considering your company next year. He is a fine member of your organization.

Not in mine. Not unless I start doing insane levels of business. For now my broker and office admin are enough.

No. I've seen several " Teams" fall apart within the first year. There are different rules for teams, and it requires certain personalities for them to work together well.

The team concept has been pushed alot lately as a sign of success.
Certainly not for us. Instead of building a team we opened a brokerage.

IF one wants to use that yard stick, then it is true.
However, success should never be one dimensional.
The natural progression is:
student
learner
struggler
survivor
proficient
influencer
Thought leader
Creator
Whether a team is involved only depends on the flavor of Kool-Aid being consumed.

Yes, it does take a lot of people management. Sometimes it is easier to hire assistants since some agents want more share of the commission and wanting their name on every transaction also.

I like the team concept but its more responsibilities. We have to work with all different minds but as a one team. No one can be left alone whether they want to think as team or not.
