Probably not, unless it was a place I wanted to go anyway (and incorporate play time) and could use it as a tax write-off. I know it's a tax write-off anyway.
If they value my knowledge enough to put me on the agenda, they should at least pay my expenses, if not a speaker fee.

I would not do it. If you want to speak in front of people, you can find a lot of local meet ups who always need speakers.

I love an opportunity to be displayed as the expert on the subject. I would not only pay my own way, I would fly first-class, and stay at a high-end hotel. Might as well set the proper tone.

Out of State, I would not, unless there is something in it for you. When I make a decision, I look at the negatives first, and if I can live with those, I would do it. Unless you have some good reason to spend $1000, your time, and effort, I would not do it. Now if it was in your State and you could get business from it, that is a different story.

I doubt it, but it depends on who asked me, what the topic is, and what area it's in. " Out of State" might not make any difference, depending on what state. I can be in MD in 5 minutes, WV 20 minutes, PENN 1 hour, NC 6 hours, etc

I guess it would depend on a number of things. If this is real estate related it would be dependant upon who I was speaking to and how it would enhance my future business. If it is personal (or ministry related) then yes.

I doubt I would do that unless I really thought I could get a good return on my time and money. If it could lead to more business or ways of generating income, possibly.
It doesn't seem right that you should have to pay for the privilege of donating your time. It doesn't sound like they value you/your time. Don't forget the opportunity cost of your time at home working (or enjoying time w/ family).

I would because I have collateral not confined by state boundary lines. So the liberty would be a prerequisite.
Then I must assess what I would be doing if not wasting time in another state. If the weird uncle is headed my way, I think I see value.
What you fail to share is the purpose of the event? If it for PETA or a Bernie rally, I would be at a lose to find where I can be useful or benefit. The event could be a 'notes' symposium where benefit does exist.
