Of course ... always. There are times when  "charitable" work may overlap my business endeavors.  Good work does demand good pay ... and there will always be times when making an exception just makes sense because business is not all about money ... business is about the people we serve and sometimes it makes good business sense to "give".

Yes! Good work demands good day and discounting yourself just to get any job is just a sign of low self-respect, but!  I do believe in volunteering, donations, assistance to those who need it, and giving back to your community in any way you can at that moment. If you give away with love and kindness, it will always come back to you.

There certainly is.  My job, first and foremost, is to help people obtain financing.  While I get paid a fixed % per current laws, in the past, I did deals for free or next to nothing simply because it was needed to make the deal work for someone.  If something comes up that's out of a borrower's hands that jeopardizes them having a home, I'll do whatever I can to help, even in the past when that meant I would get paid nothing or close to it.  That's a minority of time though, most often good work demands good pay : )

yes - i frequently work with elderly sellers. $1k is 'worth' way more to them than it is to me.

i won't put my family in financial jeopardy and i won't discount to compete, but there are circumstances where the people simply need the money more than i do, and i'll gladly help them.

i also have a soft spot for teachers, so often rebate for their sake if needed to get the deal done.

I don't discount my listing commission because a seller will always be able to pay my fee based on the net profit I bring them.  When I work with buyers, I don't determine the fee, I will accept the co-broker compensation even if it's lower than what I would list at.

That's my regular busines and fortunately I'm in a high priced market and I have a good business.

If I can help and my help is needed I will help a homeless person or family or someone with a disability or struggling with hardships that are less fortunate get into some type of affordable housing. I may not represent them  (call it pro bono) but I will take time to educate and guide them through the different housing programs that they may be eligible for.

if possible I will send appropriate listings or advise them where to look, I will notify them of lotteries and teach them who to contact and how get on waiting lists. There's no money in it for me (not my only motivating factor) I like helping people that need help that I also like and respect. I respect the cleaning lady and janitor that work hard as much as the hedge fund manager or plastic surgeon that I make nice commissions from.

I consider it a good deed, Ironically I have rare knowledge about affordable housing in NYC even though I'm with a luxury broker.  I enjoy sharing my knowledge with those that may need it the most. It gives me perspective and keeps me down to earth

I had a circumstance that the lender asked for certain items a week before close. The sellers didn't have money to pay for it, even at close, so I reduced my commission to help out the sellers, who had been very cooperative with buyer demands.  They were good people, and I was happy to help them move on.

You mean undercut someone else's commission, for example? No. If my getting a listing depends on taking less commission, the answer is no. And I used to get calls like that all the time. Not so much these days.

Low self esteem.

My orthodontist chages arm and a leg because he has a MS degree so is the other one with a MD degree. Our HR insurance coordinator almost fainted. The way to get around is shop for someone in a cheaper income zipcode and haggle with him on extraction surgery...

Everyone in our area know RF is a discounted brokerage offering a rebate and a discount listing fee. With a large team people do not feel comfortable and many prefer a one stop with a neighborhood agent. If RF is so successful why their presence is just a 2.5% ?

Necessity is the mother of invention.  We all need to make a living and if we can't make $100 an hour to feed our family, we'll take $75.  If that's not available we'll take $50.  There are past millionaires that are now working at McDonald's so any of us could fall.  God Bless those that fight on
