Can't say I've ever given it much thought, Peter. Who came up with 5 seconds versus, say, 10 seconds?

I do, unless it's something that I really like and then it becomes the 24 hour rule.

depends on the place it's dropped and what it is

Depends on what I'm eating and what where it drops. A little dirt never hurt anybody.

If it hits the ground I do not eat it. If someone else touches it ... I don't eat it either.

Peter Mohylsky Sure, ask any chef and they will tell you. However, Dennis Swartz has a good point.

Peter - 5 second rule, heck if I dropped something really good, it could be much longer than that. It also depends on where I dropped it.

Good morning Peter Mohylsky . I have heard of the 10 second rule not the five.

5 seconds of what, is that the new time between repeating the same story?
It has been a while since I have wasted my morning watching this presentation.
1,587,495
Depends on the surface it falls on, but yes the 5 second rule is strong.

The "5 Second Rule" at our house was always about dropped food on the floor, Peter Mohylsky ... but you have to understand that I grew up with 3 brothers ... it was every man (and morsel) for themself!

I saw that this morning - my kids have been living it. Watch out for that 30 second "moisture" rule.

I didn't see anything on the morning news about a 5 second rule. However, there is a very well known 7 second delay rule that the FCC implemented several years ago. If you are watching the Super Bowl this weekend on TV, your fun (or sadness) will be delayed by 7 seconds.

HAHAHAHAH!
Your morning news is doing this during an election cycle? Then again, we're recycling everything these days . . .

No, I don't believe in the 5 second rule. If it is on the floor it should not be eaten.

This rule was standard operating procedure for me for a long time until my vision failed the 1st phase of inspection prior to consumption..
5,659,678
I can't say I've thought about it much either..5 seconds ..10..does it really have an impact?

NO, my exception is if it is dry or coated, like an advil pill, then yes. But any and most food items i would not eat.
1,513,383
If you cannot get the point across in five seconds than yes!
As to the boob tube news the five second rule means repeating what they have said and hourly and for days as they have forgotten how to report!
