Yes, and thank you for bringing it up. I don't work with a lot of foreign investors, but it's important to know.

David Barr Agents might take FIRPTA more seriously, if they knew they could be liable for the tax. Thanks for the update.

Does this have something to do with all the refugee/invaders that Obama and the Republican Congress are bringing in? I will let my Title Attorneys deal with it.

Sounds like something I'd need to take a pill for. Never heard of it, we don't work with international clients.

Yes. Makes me wonder why the increase. Foreign sellers will not be happy about that.

I hope our closing and title companies are up to date on this. I don't deal with many foreign investors.

Shouldn't impact our market as we really don't have any home sales over $1 million so the old 10% rate would apply.
Our average home sale is around $145,000 in the county so most individual owner occupants would qualify for the exemption with proper affidavit for sales at $300,000 or below.

It shouldn't have a huge effect on our market. We here in flyover land don't get many foreign sellers or buyers.
Thanks for posting your blog on the topic!

This is something that I manage with the escrow officer to ensure it is taken care of properly.

David,
Hard pressed to find a “foreign” buyer here, unless you count folks moving from Texas. They are always welcome.

There is a lot of tax information, both domestic and international, that one needs to keep abreast of in the wonderful world of real estate.
