I grew up on a cattle ranch and when branding calves we would sometimes toss about a quart of kerosene on the bonfire to increase the fire heating the branding irons.
Not the safest thing but the fire would heat up quickly. One day someone put gasoline in the clearly marked kerosene container. When I tossed about a quart on the fire --- well, it was a blast and I lost my eyebrows and eyelashes and some hair and it looked like I had a pretty good sunburn.

We are great re-users of containers around here, most of the time a piece of tape with a label is attached, other times it takes a peek under the cover to see what it hiding inside.
It is often disappointing when my mind is geared up for a late night bite of cottage cheese only to find that my wife has stashed something else in the container.
Of course depending on the type of leftover, it can also be a pleasant surprise.

I have in the past but lately I use clear generic containers that I can easily see through to what is inside. I have to keep it simple so i can figure it out.

LMAO. Why Richie I believe their may be a fun post behind this question. Hopefully this was not food related. Make it a great week and get that darn container properly labeled. Mark

I did that last year. Weed killer and fertilizer pellets. I threw it away.

Hmm, could lead to some interesting recipes! I use empty bottles for cleaning concoctions and sometimes don't label them, then have to sniff to figure out which is which (Dawn and vinegar or water and Clorox? and so on).

No. I always label everything. I agree with Barbara Todaro - that is so dangerous on so many levels. Thankfully, in your cases, it does not appear any harm was done.

Hubby put diesel fuel in one of my fryer oil containers and didn't label it. Nothing tastes better than diesel flavored fried chicken.

I was thought since childhood, never reuse a container.
As a result my garage is full of red Folgers containers who labeled dropped in one of the 140 Degree days the garage experiences.
I KNOW there exists an assortment of cams and pegs I need to put that rocker back together. I am believing SHARPIES are the solution.
