One of my siblings in-laws make a big deal about giving what they consider excellent gifts and it matters very much in their family culture. Christmas is a competition for rating as the "best gifter". Money isn't always the determining factor but to them it does matter.

Yes and no.  For my grandchilren, I keep their gifts at a set price. If I get an unexpected gift from a friend, I could care less what it cost, I appreciate the thought.

I like the receiving thing.  Also giving.  Price doesn't matter unless it's jewelry.

No I don't think so.  Had a get together with some family tonight and about a month ago I came across some infinity scarfs marked down to $! for a package of 2.  I knew my husbands grandmother would love the red and the black with roses.  She was so excited! apparently she just bought a new black dress and the one with roses is a perfect match.

I also bought many packages, something for grand kids to give teachers.. 

Price doesn't matter.  Another favorite is the chick fli la calendar :-)

No, the gift comes from the heart, and gifts are meant to be individual, or personalized..or....special to the special person the gift is given to...is my feeling on this whole thing. I also find more pleasure in giving then receiving. Happy Holidays, Richie! You've got some great questions today!

Its all thought.  Some of my favorite gifts ever have been some of the least expensive.  I imagine that's the same for most people.  

Price is not a factor in receiving.  I never even attempt to figure that out.  Giving, yes.  I have certain limits I'll spend based upon classification of individual.  For example: charities=$15-$25, gift exchanges/hostess gifts=$25 max but depends on the criteria of the exchange, friends=$50-$75 (but there is flexibility), family=No limit.

Absolutely not! I have always believed and still do, that it is the thought that counts and the gesture that someone chose carefully is more important than the price.

It depends who it is coming from, a gift from the heart is always worth more than a costly gift, however if im a kid and i get a home made gift as opposed to that new flashy tech something, i would be let down

I don't believe it should... what matters is thought put into the gift whether giving or receiving. (And, of course, the presentation!)

When GIVING gifts, price matters when there is a lack of money in the checkbook. I've had a few lean giving years.

When getting gifts, price doesn't matter at all to me. 

It does ~ depends who is giving/receiving. If it is  your wife/girlfriend ~ you do not want to play that game with her:)
