Good morning Lisa. We have 4 full time processors, one is licensed because she is also a part time loan officer, there is no difference in the qualify of their work. All of them are at the top of their game and paid very well as a result.

That might help, but the problem is the handlers they report to and are paid by.

Trained to a standard. Not sure licensing would do much.

Never thought about this... not sure what licensing would add to the mix. I'd prefer our lenders to answer this question.

I really don't know. I don't think it would be a bad idea.

Lisa, licensing underwriters is probably a state by state thing. The employing lender is already pretty regulated.

That isn't a bad idea at all. Generally I am against more regulation but they are regulator and accountable and walk on eggshells.

Lisa Von Domek I don't think it would change much. Just another fee for the State to collect.

I think they should be properly trained! Most do not seem to be!

I do not know whether a license will help. I hope they get good training .

As government is always looking to increase their wages, fee's and taxes why not!

I agree with Sandy Padula and Norm Padula, JD, GRI it's the people they report to that are a source of many problems.

i dont think it is needed. if they are good, intelligent and learn the area. but it would put pressure on them to be on task or lose their license ??

With the focus of peoples homes on the line, I definately think they need a license.

Yes I do! Their knowledge needs to be regulated and certified by a license.

I haven't given it much thought, but upon reading your question, my initial response is yes.

Lisa - I would agree with Ryan Huggins - Thousand Oaks, CA in that they should all be trained to a standard, but not sure that licensing would make a huge difference.

I think there are too many licenses out there now already, it does not improve the quality, just limits the competition and employs more government paper pushers.

Lisa,
While we talk about underwriting and underwriters, there are multiple hands in the process. There may be more than one processor involved and more than one person involved in the underwriting process. They are all under enough internal scrutiny. A license would not help IHMO.

In NC we use attorneys to handle closings. I can not imagine using someone off the street to handle such an important process. But we are a "Race State" so that might have something to do with my opinion.

No, I don't think they should be licensed professionals. Mostly UW are very experienced and they know their guidelines.

In my province, real estate brokers and sales representatives are licensed in accordance with Ontario law. However, Ontario law does not govern the usage of the term Realtor. Realtor is a registered trademark used by CREA and via licence to members of CREA, the provincial real estate associations and local real estate associations. Appraisers are not licensed in Ontario. I am not aware that the Ontario government has found it necessary to license underwriters yet. It has a lot of other things to keep itself busy.
