We still need to market the page and spend money to get the leads. Whereas the page is created once and can be tweaked a bit only so why such a high price?

Homeowners want this info. However, the online estimates are nothing more than Zillow (and now Redfin) type estimates.
So what to do...
Use a "Home Value Report" landing page to generate leads and then follow up with a CMA (and not the online estimate). The landing page will generate the lead of homeowners interested in knowing the value of their home. The CMA you provides much more value than any inaccurate online estimate.
It's a great way to build your brand and generate leads.

No. I believe strongly that property can only be evaluated properly by using comps AND seeing the home personally. I don't want to buy into the zillow mentaility that it all comes down to a push of a button - because it doesn't.

I'm with David Barr on this, the site should be part of your own website. I don't have a page for this (nor do I plan to beyond a real basic contact form). No one is going to go to my site (even if advertised) because no one is going to go searching for this type of site. They'll go directly to Zillow.
