Roy,
I saw that. Like many, many other federal regs it will be very hard to enforce.

yes, I just read a few articles on this yesterday.

Still irritates me that they have different standards for business vs personal use.  If this were really a safety issue then that argument is shot out of the water with the different requirements.  Seems like an antibusiness communist issue to me.

Roy - The Washington Post article you linked to is dated November 6, 2015 and referred to recommendations by a task force to the FAA.

A Washington Post article dated December 14, 2015 discusses some of the actual rules that were adopted.  See https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/innovations/wp/2015/12/14/most-drone-owners-will-need-to-register-next-week-or-risk-penalties/

Important:  The FAA has NOT yet adopted any rules for commercial use.  See http://www.marketwatch.com/story/drone-registration-takes-flight-as-faa-adopts-new-rules-2015-12-14

I heard if the FAA sees aerial photos in MLS from a drone owner without an appropriate license, they can make you take it down.

Yep.  Saw that last night. Got a good laugh.  In California you have six months from when you move in to register your car with the state.  There are very many unregistered cars here.

I'm sure there will be about as many people registering their drones as people who are using them for commercial/RE purposes legally...

Yes. I still would have a problem owning one. I would have to justify the expense and would therefore fall into the commercial use realm.
