I have done similar things and plan on doing much more in the future.
Yesterday I had a meeting with an agent in Mexico with exactly this type of idea.

I don't, but I'm sure there are some who do.

I have a big out-of-state data base from my other business. It has been a strong source for referring to other agents.

I used to generate first time home buyer leads in SD for referral fees with the state DPA. But over the years Google Adwords for first time home buyer related keywords have skyrocketed to practically the same cost as luxury related keywords. No longer makes sense.

I haven't done this, but it sounds like a great idea to me.

I could see this as a good strategy to get some extra business just for referring a client to someone out-of-state, or out-of-area. Making money without doing a lot of work if you could automate the strategy.

No. I'd rather focus on generating leads in my area so I get the full commission!! Doing all the work necessary to generate a lead, to only get 25% of the reward is just plain silly!

Don't know how strategic I am at this point, but the intent is there, yes. Why do you ask? Do you have ideas for strategies? I'm listening!

I see people here who do that, but personally I think that paid referrals are the root of many of the problems in this profession and the reason why most professions prohibit the buying and selling of referrals.

too time consuming for "short money".... time can be spend more productively....

Yes.
The destination agent is given two choices for acceptance both of which are much, much less that the25-35% pillage and plunder rate, but assures me 100% payment upfront.
The above model does not conform to the 'referral fee' model, but it works well for me.

I know many out of state companies who do, as i get the calls to get these referrals. If it is a customer i would not have had, i happily take them. But then wonder if they should be licensed in Nh if they are soliciting customers for NH homes?

I got one offered to me a week ago and the agent wanted 35% and she gave it to more than one agent.

Good morning. Pretty interesting strategy if that is what is being done.

One of our business associates does. My husband designed a CRM type back end system for him to keep track of everything. Last I heard he was doing about 300 deals a year.
