I stopped sending Christmas cards about 5 years ago or more.  When I overhear "civilians" discuss the insurance agent or the plumber sending them cards and how hollow they feel this is, I know not to send anything.  I do like Debbie Gartner 's idea of New Years greetings!

I try to sort out my clients by what and how they celebrate - some are very religious (any faith) and others are more the snowmen type.

A tradition exists within the community to whom I send Christmas cards. That tradition is to make a display, preferably on a tree, of all cards received. The card selection begins with. "Will this make a good tree ornament?" Then "Joy to the World," or "Peace on Earth" or "He is born," are the messages preferred.

I have yet to read a person of Jewish persuasion, or Muslim or Church of God or Hindu or Sheik or Rastafarian or Baha`i debate if they should change the message of their Holy Days to accommodate "non-believers." Quite the opposite. Others view Christians who are so lacking of faith and courage to be members of a faithless society also know as infidels.

I do not refer to any holiday by name to be honest with you, it is "happy holiday's" or have a safe and happy holiday.  If it is 4th of July, whatever.  Why draw the line at a certain holiday?  Opinions vary and I really dont know what will or will not offend someone.

Yes, Happy Holidays is the safest way to go. If I know for sure what they celebrate, I'd adjust the card and a time of sending.

Although I'm retired, I love sharing my knowledge and learning from other real estate industry professionals. - Wenatchee, WA

In the past, I always chose the card I liked the picture and sentiment. I never thought much about it until it became politically incorrect to say "Merry Christmas". So, now, I only send cards that say "Merry Christmas".  I am celebrating the birth of Christ.  It is the Christmas season, so I say Merry Christmas.

And... I NEVER send a card without a personal note.  If I don't know the person well enough to send a note, then it is shallow to send them one.  I don't like to receive cards like that, and I don't send them.

Amen.

Merry Christmas & Season's Greetings! I've said it all my life. I'm not wishing religion on them, I'm wishing the spirit of the season on them and it is one of the major seasons of December. Same as you wouldn't be offended if someone said "Aloha!" to you while in Maui, while in December, we must accept different greetings as just that, a friendly greeting.
