In Florida, pets may not be left in cars. If caught, it could result in a $5000 fine. Most buyers with a pocket dog will carry their pet with them with no objection from me. If large dog, then one of the buyers must remain outside with the dog and alternate

I normally say no to the dogs coming into a home but yesterday, I made my first exception . . . a 5 year old wiener dog who just came thru spinal surgery.  He was in a baby carriage and we toured 10 condos in a new development.  He was good as gold too!

I think it is very inconsiderate to the seller.  If it's too hot or cold to leave them in the car, they should have made arrangements otherwise.

I tell people like that , that I am not the owner, and I don't decide who gets to bring pets inside of someone else's house. I will call listing agent and ask. It's rude for someone to expect that they can bring their pet inside a home without first asking ahead of time. They really shouldn't even bring a dog onto the property.

I had a family that wanted to bring their dog to see homes. One time they tried to bring the dog into a home where another dog was present. I thought that was crazy and asked them to keep the dog outside.

Doesn't really seem right to me to bring pets into other people's homes. What if they have allergies? Or a cat? I just think it's better not to bring dogs into the homes I'm showing.

I had the same situation about two weeks ago Richard, except the buyer wasn't of the "where I go, the dog goes" mindset.  I arrived and the buyer was in the street letting her small dog walk around.  I had no issue with the dog coming in (vacant house) and the dog was carried like a baby until we got to the back yard.

I don't know if I'd have done the same for a large dog though, especially one that is a "prohibited breed" on most insurance policies.

<-- The CFO has sold LOTS of property (mostly commercial and land)!
But I digress.
We have to be EXTREMELY respectful of people's homes. A vacant is 'maybe' OK, but the rule of thumb must be, pup in truck. I 'get' dog people and they want their baby near. And give me one well-behaved canine over 3 maniacal human children any day. But it's all in the arrangements, PRIOR.

I LOVE dogs. But oh wow, I can see it now: "wagging tail destroys priceless vase in one swipe". Who pays? Not me!

(Of course, one shouldn't leave a priceless vase in the home while it's listed, but that's another story.)

As others have mentioned it gets complicated. Pocket dogs you might not even notice at all, but does that make it ok? Assistance dogs have to be let in, but then what if the seller left a cat or dog loose in the house and they react badly to the service dog?

Interesting question Richard L. McKinney P.A. . :0)

First of all a call off the sign would have to meet me at the office and at that time I would advise the buyers that the dog could not come into the house. I understand that they love the dog but if he lifts his leg etc. in the house guess who will be blamed.
