Debbie,

First, I would think about, "what about that person sets me off that mirrors and reminds me of a part of me that I don't like?"  Very often, people like that are a blessing, because you gain so much by confronting that.

The other scenario is that this person so hates themselves that their only pleasure is to suck the air out of the room.  If that is the case, then I would consider moving offices.

It is hard to answer this question without have specifics, and if I knew more, my answer would be better. A

No, I am only at the office in my own office so  I'd close the door and unless they have business with me at that time sent them on my way. If it go really out of hand I'd ask my broker if I can maybe open an agent office in the same building or near by, that can get complicated with local laws though.

If the individual is influencing the policy and direction of the brokerage I certainly would consider a change. However I must objectively consider the cause of 'can't stand' regarding whether it is something other than personal preference. If they are simply wearing too much apparel from Chico's I just might need to get over it.

No, I do not have that at my current office. But I did at a previous job. This woman was so negative that the negative energy surrounded her. It was unbearable to even interact with her through email. She would be your best friend one minute and calling you nasty names 5 minutes later. The  things this woman did were unbelievable and everyone hated her. I had never met a person like that in my life and never want to again. She's the only person I have ever tried to block from my social media accounts. So yes, if I encountered someone similar to this woman ever again, something would have to change quickly.

Debbie: Sounds like this person was more than one you couldn't stand which I'm sure you could have handled. But if the broker supports that person and you unfairly get the short end of the monetary stick, and if this could not be worked out in a satisfactory manner, I would consider leaving. If I were you, I would go it alone. You have so much experience and are so well known in your community, why put up with that from this or possible other future brokers?

No way  would I consider making a company change just because I did not like someone. I would do my best to get along with them and if I couldn't I would do the best I could to keep away from them.  Sometimes you just have to figure out how to deal with things as they are.

YES!! Of course it depends on the entire situation. If this person is somewhat new to the office and industry I may not leave. Especially if I get along with everyone else well. But if I really have no connection or relationship with others from the brokerage I am at, it would most likely just be the cherry on top of the sundae. Life is to short to be miserable by those around you. When you are stressed out and or uncomfortable being around those types frequently every day to even three times a week; it is just not worth it. It is better to withhold your energy and mental well being for other avenues in life. So I say, don't let the door hit you, on your way out.

No. We have a very large office and one person would not usually provide enough of an incentive to change. Also, the broker would take action in situations where behavior was not acceptable.

Debbie, I had a situation where the was an agent who was just awful, and my very wise manager told me "Remember, Pat.  It's never the other person!" I'm convinced that in these situations, what makes me crazy is whatever that person reflects back to me about myself - even if it is an exaggerated version of myself.
