For me, nothing happens until I have coffee. I do however have it as I start to ramp up on getting tasks done around the house, or checking online and email.
Of late, task while having coffee has been my Twitter feed. Having some great conversations there of late.

Set down at the computer and drink my coffee. It helps me relax and get focus. Mainly going through the e-mails, the news, and such. Nothing heavy duty.

Michael Thornton reading this article freed me from something that was ingrained in me by my military Father

Michael, first I hit the button to make some coffee, then I fix the bed. There is something magical about fixing the bed!

Depends on the day, if it is a regular day: I drive my kid to her school, walk a dog, check emails quickly, feed all my pets, clean cats' litter boxes, cook a big mug of coffee and after little coffee break, and make up, the day officially started.

Getting out of bed is often a pretty big task for me. Making the bed ranks as about the third task I do.

Michael Thornton making bed is my first task too.
And of course, the morning routine and prayers for about 10-20 minutes. My conversation with God.....

Michael,
First stop is the bathroom, get dressed, I don’t drink coffee so I can skip that step, then I do my Bible reading for the day. Then email, then AR. The bed gets made after about an hour.

The very very first thing is to use the bathroom!
Then it's off to make coffee.

Feed my cat Fred and get a pot of coffee going. The first is to stop the daily excavation that has become Fred's custom as he "works" me out of bed each day (no need for an alarm here!) and the second is to get my motor going.

Make the coffee, and start in with ActiveRain almost every single morning.

Michael Thornton I know of a few people that subscribe to "making the bed philosophy". That's interesting you mentioned it. They feel it goes beyond a chore; it's a mindset to start their day with; good on you and love this question.
My Miracle Morning routine which, yes includes coffee, then giving gratitude in quiet reflection, reviewing my goals for today, this week, this month, reading a chapter of an enriching book while I have my coffee and then being here on Active Rain to interact with all of you before I go to the office. I love my mornings, they set up the whole day to be "good". They may not all be great, but, I know they'll be at least good. Win the Day!
