Winston Heverly It's nice to see how many points you have and where you are on the leader board, but points are not the real motivation.

Yes, it motivates me - I'd like to move up the ranks in my area and I am inching my way there.

No. Points only have monetary value up to 500,000 points.

Yes. Making it to 500K was very important and now it's a habit and an enjoyable one too.

Yes, it was a big motivator to getting to 500K since then the service is free; I thought I wouldn't be motivated after that, but I do like seeing the increases and now I'm targeting 1M just because it's a cool number.

Winston Heverly Of course not! It didn't when I became "king of the hill" back in 2007, and it has nothing to do with my recent return! Pinocchio!! Of course it does (at least for me), and the ways you can earn points encourage participation in multiple aspects of ActiveRain - not just 1 or 2 - unless you aren't interested in earning maximum points on a daily/weekly basis.

I think it helps though the real motivation comes form having consumers that see my posts and contacting me.

No, counting points is useless and no buyer or seller cares how many points we have on AR.

Winston Heverly if someone answers 'NO', please do not believe them....lol!

It used to but now we're #1 in our county and #2 in our State (with very little chance of catching the #1 person!!) so we're pretty content.

Winston - Right now the AR point system has kept me motivated to comment each day, but I still do not post as often as I really need to.

I love coming here daily to network with other people in the industry. The points are bonus.

I'd say their biggest effect is I'm competitive, so I like over taking the point holder ahead of me; but I'm a blogger at heart and I enjoy the AR Q&A engagement; so ultimately I'd be here regardless.

For me the points have always been the motivator in a weird sense. I look at it as a race. One has to be challenged or what is the sense of participating is my opinion. I mean lets face it, if you been doing this business for 30 plus years like myself, do I really need to read another post of the importance of curb appeal as an example.

The points system does motivate us to create more activity.
The points have the greatest importance for those who need to reach 500,000 points for a free membership.
