There are many types of audits that can be conducted by a wide variety of government entities, departments as well as third party firms such as CPA firms.

Some companies get audited every year by the IRS and/or Canada Revenue Agency, their CPA firm or by other entities.  I have experienced client audits and appeals that have gone on for days, weeks, months and even years.

by the IRS or the real estate commission?  I have a had an IRS audit (they owed me money), but not a real estate commission audit.  I also once even had a department of labor audit of my payroll records.  No issues there either.

Yes and it was incredible the time and money the State of Florida spent to end up with $50! Thousands of dollars in auditor travel time, etc. Our government at work!
