I think Q&A is supposed to be a helpful forum, so good answers are rewarded appropriately. A blog can be about anything (I don't think the Q/A feature was intended to be what it's become), as can comments. Only quality content should be rewarded, is what I think the logic is.

It is a good question:) We used to have likes for everything. I guess, AR staff wants more traffic here, in A&Q, so they reward members with points.

I think the old owners were trying to encourage more use of the Q and A section.

They used to give points for thumbs up to comments. I think they stopped because it was getting a bit out of control and some may have been abusing. On answers, there is a limit of pts for 5 thumbs up day.
