You betcha!  I'm pretty judgemental about stuff like that.  I want someone who is a professional to handle my largest financila asset.  Flip flops doesn't say "professional" to me.

Depends on location and relationships:)

I know a lot of successful agents who wear jeans all the time, their reputations means more for sellers than their outfit ( especially if 100+F outside).

Matt - Here in Arizona, shorts and a collared shirt with flip flops are pretty common attire, especially in the summer when it is 115 degrees.

Wearing a t-shirt and a baseball hat backwards is a little much, and would seem unprofessional even here.

When the buyer shows up and is sporting $10,000 of amazing body ink and a blue Mohawk, it will become apparent why the buyer is not working with .... YOU or me.

Why would another agent be coming to my presentation unless the agent was the owner or power of attorney of the owner?  In that situation, why would I turn away the agent?

Its not that it was jeans. I wear jeans on fridays and have never thought twice. It was his overall approach to his initial meeting with a potential client. I would feel sick as an agent having to walk away from a terrific opportunity because I didn't feel like cleaning myself up in order to put my best foot forward.

Also I just wanted to post something not so stuffy.

It's market specific.  Frankly jeans, t-shirt, even shorts and/or flip flops are what the sellers and agent along with buyers wear in this market around the lake.  I wear flip flops and jeans almost year round.

If the agent bring his clients who are his friends. In warm climate that is fairly often. If the owners are in I tell them so... Never have to escalate

Theres an agent in my office that wears sandals and shorts every day during the summer.  He is also one of the top producers in my MLS, I think it's all about how you present yourself.  He is a golfer who specializes in golf property and he's doing really well for himself without owning a pair of pants.

Probably. Most people judge by appearances, including sellers. I could let the t-shirt slide if it was neat and clean, but the flip flops and backwards baseball hat would cause agent to not get my listing.

Absolutely!  If they can't dress appropriately for me, I do not want them representing the property.

I had an agent show up to a showing with his client looking like he was going fishing!  I greeted the client; thinking it was the agent and was surprised when the agent laughed and acknowledged that his client dressed better than he did!  I was appalled.

While I think appearances are important, I'd probably at least hear him out.

I also think that appropriate dress is regional - here, the men all wear ties and perhaps a branded polo on a hot summer Saturday, but that's not necessarily true everywhere.
