I don't let anyone abuse me! They might try and they get the message quickly that it won't work with me. If they don't get the message, it's bye-bye to them. I must admit it's almost never that this happens to me because my style is very much "don't mess with me" and abusers can read targets like no one else.

I dont, once you become smart and successful in real estate you pick and choose who you want to work with. The extra deal is not worth the cost of health, stress or other deals.

I treat my clients with respect and I expect the same respect in return. If not, there will be a problem which will most likely be solved by a separation.

Larry, I feel your pain.  This seems like a question more about a bad marriage than a career.  Or if it were about a career it would be more relevant to an employee than a free agent, which we as Realtors are.  None of us Realtors need to take any type of abuse.  We only get what we allow.  Put yourself in a position of self dignity and self respect.  Create a stream of future business and choose the people that appreciate your service and work with them.  We should love our career as Realtors as we have choices.

If we are being "abused" it is because we don't respect ourselves!  We are "teachers".  We need to educate our clients as to what is acceptable.  The greatest "abuse" I know of is not respecting our time.  That is totally up to us to determine and create a balance between working with their schedules and respecting our own time.

That's an interesting word. Why do you think you get "abused"? I know some agents are so desparate they let clients walk all over them, but that doesn't need to happen. I feel my clients can be tough, but then, that's what I signed up for. They are buying and selling an expensive commodity and they want service for us getting well paid.

Larry Johnston it's a mindset. If we set the expectations right from the beginning on how we will work together and possibly have the exclusive buyers agreement signed, you will not feel like it's an abuse.

We are in relationship business. Once we create a bond between us and buyers, you will not feel like that.

There is 'unintended' abuse delivered by the unknowing. For these patience and more information is needed.

There is the 'unintended' abuse delivered by those following the bad directives of others. For these, patience and clarified goals will prove helpful.

There are those who deliver offense based on their deeply realized insecurity. The see goblins and trolls hidden in every shadow and around every corner. For these, patience and trust building opportunities are essential.

Some have experienced betrayal at the hands of someone they call a real estate professional. The perception of lack of choice creates a hard to control backlash toward the agent in front of them. Betrayal is addressed by proper modeling of reinforced principles of client protection.

Then there are those with a chip on their shoulder. They need to answer the question, "Do you want my help?"   Abuse is certain if you 'sell' to someone who only wants to buy. We, the real estate community, must take some credit for this outcome.

Finally, there are those whose intent is intrigue. They spent time wallowing in the toxins of the dark side and have every intent of making you quit or working you out of the deal when it is made. This always begins with, "I don't want to sign a contract."  The agent who ignores the red flag gets what they deserve.
