I am facinated by others interest in the work of someone else and the entire judge and jury concept - if what you are doing is working for you, then keep on keeping on! I wish I was paid for everytime I feel the need to say
"Heads down and eyes on your own work"!!

Taking exception to the comments of my esteemed colleagues. there is incredible merit in the 2000+ word article.
However, the suggestion anything less is just playing means you are dealing with someone who is thought impaired.
But what is of greater significance is what is the intended PURPOSE of your blog. You state, FRANK, you are here for business only. Which means you are leveraging your AR activity to boost your real lead capture system.
If your intent is to capture the 90 day market using contemporary (recent) information or dated data, a 800 or less blog is all that is needed. If you are wanting to deliver more to the 90 day market use a video.
If however, the purpose is to establish yourself as an authority, (use each post as the eventual section in your future book) or to make an offer unique to you and has no expiry, or present a BP or concept for which you are the origin, an exhaustive blog will serve you well and have a evergreen quality.
Such blogs written years ago are still causing the phone to ring and capturing traffic seeking more information. Two this week, one from a land developer and another from a home buyer from CT coming to FL
The real challenge with a 2000 work blog is it does require real writing skill which is different than stringing 2000 words together.
Understand the syntax and structure needed to expand the mind of the reader. Understand how to draw the right reader deeper. Understand that you must tell them what you are going to tell them and why, then tell them, than review what your revealed and how they have benefited. At the end they will know you have made them smarter....and they LIKE that feeling and will return.
Understand, some who read have not the capacity to read an exhaustive or authoritative piece. They like new loops, comic books and other forms of fiction. Let this not be a bother to you, but stay true to your purpose and the result you want will eventually materialize.
But what do I know. If you are soliciting opinions, you now have another one.

Here is what I have come to find, if you are writing blogs for consumers 350-800 words is best, consumers don't want to read long articles, they want the facts to help them make a decision.
2000 plus word blogs are great for B2B marketing and sales, if you are a consultant and want other business professionals see you as an expert those are the blogs you should write.
Every blog helps with SEO, it's just a matter of who your audiance is.

2000 words are way to many most of the time. Barbara Todaro who IMHO is the best writer on this platform almost never writes that many. I have a lot better things to do with my time than to sign on here just to earn points, or play around.

Frank, there may be some merit to 2000 words, especially if you are a book publisher.
But for the average reader, that is just too many for anyone either in AR or in the public to take the time to read.
I limit myself to 1000, and generally to 300 if I want someone to read it, and my SEO is doing just fine.

If it works, then don't fix it. You must be doing something right. I try to post over 300 word posts, but sometimes fall a bit short.

You're blogging for business and it's working for you. Why change what you've been doing just because someone has a different opinion?
It's your blog, so write as you feel, and if the words flow, keep on writing.

I have two reacent posts that got lots of eyes and one resulted in a sale. Both less than 150 words. I'll just do my own thing.

Most of our posts are 300-500.. Our posts rank on google as we use the blueprints for blogging about communities, condos, and listings. Most of our business comes straight from these short and informative posts because they do rank on page one of google. Content matters more than length... And no we don't "play" on here and I could care less about the points system. I blog for leads which we turn into $$$.

Google changes all the time. Because you have done something in the past does not mean anything to the "spiders".

I'm with most of the group here, Frank Rubi, MBA. 2000 words is much more than I usually want to read on this forum.

Frank,
I will not read a 2000 word post, now will I write one. Those who want to do that can have a field day. We are not bowing to the Google gods no matter what they say. We try to keep our posts at 250 words, because we wan them read and we want to contribute to the industry. BTW, our blog reaches over a million readers...we must be doing something right? A

Very few of my blogs would meet the 2,000 word test. Based on the comments I receive, a high percentage of readers do not read the entire blog.

I read the article and it had some good points regarding Google ranking and SEO. As for a 2000 word article.... I may write a few but I will never read a single one!

If that is the case there would be no one here! As long as you get the point across without swearing does it matter how many points.

i am with the gang here, too long a narrative is too much, who the heck has the time to read 2000 words if your trying to get the kids to school and then pick them up and put them to bed..you get the idea :)

Ridiculous and I don't agree. Amount of words doesn't equal authority on a topic.

I don't believe that was the intent of the article. The intent was to provide insight into writing more in depth articles that will rank better on google and to do more quality than quantity.
I'm glad your 500 word articles are working for you. Those may in fact be right for your target and your topic.
the idea is to wrtie more quality over quantity and often more in depth and quality articles are what it takes to rank.
Yes, there are many here just wasting their time posting for points...and they are often writing very short posts (200 words or less) and not related to their topic of business.
Bill was saying know your purpose. then, write accordingly. Some write for fun...and some, like me, do a combo. I try to do 1 in depth article per month, then a few to link to key posts for better rankings and some just for fun...and to get my mind off of things.

We need to decide the purpose of the blog and it should add value for the reader. I see many short blogs with good relevant content. If I am blogging for consumer benefits on a relevant topic I will have a longer blog. We need to keep our audience in mind.
