What is money, as long as we have people who want to ride around town and visit homes without pre-qualification letters?

We keep six months of funds available in case things run dry. In this business one never knows. We don't owe for anything and are comfortable staying in the black.

It's not about how much (that's subject to individual needs & wants and we can't judge who needs what), its how long do you want to earn. Risidual income is my exit strategy. Rental properties & having a book of business to sell for a referral fee schedule of payments over years. I want to cherry pick my clients and refer the rest away and then retire with my tenants paying my bills and my book of business paying my retirement :)

Jack, your question if meaningful for the critical reader.
The discipline to live within your NEED and never at the level of your wants is essential. Be aware...'and be comfortable' is within your wants.
Living within need and assigning the surplus (the gift to you) to relieve others of suffering, or for the benefit of others means I, You, will NEVER NEED again.

Henry Ford was asked the same question, to which he replied, "Just one dollar more..."

I will be very interested to see what the replies are. I often times wonder, "how much do I need to make to be successful?" It seems to be a moving number as every year I sell more real estate and every year, I feel like I could handle more. This is the first year I feel like I have as much business that I can truely handle at one time, but we are only half way thru the year. To answer your question, my wife is a partner at a law firm here in town, I dont have to sell anything to live comfortable :) Good question.

I like what @Michael Jacobs said. I like to make enough to help others when I'm done paying my own bills. There is never enough for the need. I just want to do my part. And, sometimes, my part means spending time with people instead of giving them money.

The beauty of working in real estate is that only you can determine how much money you make.

I will just say PLENTY, Jack. PLENTY. and it takes Money to Make Money, it's all about perspective and investment for one to create their own definition of a comfortable lifestyle.

I think one should think in terms of profit and not how much you make. Too many people have no idea about profitability but they sure can post their awards on Facebook. My question to anyone who is a REALTOR® is this: If you were a publicly traded company, would you invest in your own company. Most agents wouldn't have a clue.

Need to or want to? Need I would say 100k is a great, stress free life. Want to I always like to double my income every year or get as close to doubling it as I can.

nice question, and not just for real estate. i have made it, lost it, made it etc... true American entrepreneur story :). i really dont collect dollars, i like to be the best. i know that is vague. But i live for being the best i can be, and i live comfy. I will never be donald trump (who went bankrupt before lol) oh, and by the way i had drinks one night with donald. what a story that is. To answer the ?? .. i want to do the best job around. And surround myself with similar people.

I like to have 1 year in reserve for both personal and business. I'm extreme. 3-6 months is usually the number.

Jack Lewitz - it depends on where you live. I do not think this is enough for a someone working in Boston, MA area....

You need to earn the amount that will allow you to reach your personal production goals while setting aside funds for a comfortable retirement.
For many years, my personal goal was to continue as a member of the Platinum Club at RE/MAX. That requirement was $250,000 in personal commission income each year.
The Lifetime Achievement Award at RE/MAX requires a total of $3,000,000 in commission income.
