We have extreme thunderstorms here in SW Illinois, so we're not unprepared. Having said that, we'll inspect the basement for moisture, check the windows, and eyeball the roof for missing shingles. Then we call the appropriate services if there are damages, and go about our routine.

But to answer your question, likely I wouldn't know about the storm, because I'm asleep at 11pm most nights, I get up at 5am for my Miracle Morning routine. 
Ironically we really did have a thunder & rain storm this morning at 5;45am (lasted about an hour) and I gave thanks!
