with franchised operations like RE/MAX and Keller, there's no reason to even think about that any longer... I've been at RE/MAX for 20 years and it's just like working for myself, especially with a team.... but I don't need to think about leasing office space or providing services....

I'm very happy with my current Brokerage and would consider opening a satellite office at some point. I like being left alone to do my own thing and unless that changes, I'm good!

I never "wanted" to open my own office but the time came when the market changed and I felt getting into Property Management was prudent. None of the traditional offices in town would allow it, so I did open my own office. I was able to quickly build a portfolio of 65 rental units to manage. This gave me a steady income during the downturn a few years ago. Barbara Todaro , I was with Re-Max here until the owner got into financial trouble and had to close it down. I loved Re-Max.

Paul S. Henderson, Realtor, Tacoma Washington Been there and done that! There are a lot of benefits to owning your own business. However, the overhead for owning your own business can quickly add up.

I think about this everyday, just making a list and when the time comes I'll have it all figured out.

I did and I do. I could not think of anything better. But to start new, it takes lots of times, resources and money.

I'd consider setting up a satellite office. I appreciate not needing to manage the corporate side of things.

Paul,
We did, the guy we worked for was insanely jealous, so we moved on. A

Nope - on the mortgage side I don't want the headaches, don't want the paperwork, etc. I'd have no problem leading a sales team, but definitely wouldn't want to build from the ground up in the current regulatory environment.

Yes. I opened my first real estate office in the summer of 1961 after graduating from law school.
In recent years, I was an associate broker in a RE/MAX office owned by others. Many can make more money by just selling real estate without burden of overhead faced by owners.
