Given time, you can find someone who is offended by ANYTHING. Americans pride themselves on their heritage, including those who are descended from notable figures of the Confederacy. Their heritage is no less valid than those who came from Union stock. A flag is not going to bring the world to its knees, but they want to relegate it to the backwaters of history, along side the German swastika and Soviet hammer and sickle. WalMart has banned it. NASCAR has banned it. Soon it will be little more than an anecdote to the 4 years that encompassed the Civil War. If the South had won, it would now be Old Glory under fire. But, history is written by the victors, anad so are the rules. May God help us all.

Oh, and "Politically correct" is an oxymoron.

How about we just re-write history to suit the masses.  Let's just pretend that the French and Indian War, the Revolution, the Civil War, WWI, WWII, Korea, Vietnam, Desert Storm, Irac, Afghanistan, etc. and let us not forget the Civil Rights movements in the 60's, never happened.  Let's just make everyone happy by being so Politically Correct that we re-write the United States of America out of existance.  I am heartily sick of it all.  I am ashamed of our country and I'm sure the rest of the world is laughing their butts off at all this nonsense.

So, it's PC to demonize people places or things that appear to be racists, and take away those peoples freedom by removing things like flags or monuments but not condemn racists remarks by racist who are not white? What happened to America, land of the free and home of the brave? 

A few years ago here in Idaho they renamed the Squaw Fish. I forget what the PC people call it - we still call it a squaw fish. 

All of these names are a part of our heritage - and I have nothing but contempt for those who wish to do away with America's history. There's good, bad, and ugly - but it's all ours.

oh gag me with a pitchfork.  I heard to today that they want to have Forest dug and removed from Memphis.  Seriously dig up some 150 year old bones and removed them.  Lord have mercy on America.

People are getting tired of all the PC stuff.  You can't blame a piece of cloth for the actions of people past, present, and in the future.  Last weekend a group of protesters from 60 miles away came to our area to burn a confederate flag on the county courthouse steps.  They were met by hundreds of local citizens waving the battle glad as well as the Stars and Stripes.  It was peaceful and there were no burnings. 

David Barr I just read where TV Land terminated the "Dukes of Hazzard". I'm assuming because it had the Confederate flag painted on their car. I think they are taking political correctness a little too far.

Yes, all names of places will be banned, so no one is offended. We will just use zip codes, GPS co-ordinates and Gulag numbers.

If we spent as much time on addressing real hate and helping with tolerance as we do on silly things... 

I think there is so much PC pressure that there is actually going to be some blow back against it.  I won't go into all the examples but I am into these conversations all the time on FB.  Do you think Nipper will loose his hat and change his dogs name?

 Good Friday morning David. All of this political correctness crap is going way overboard. As with most things, a handful of people  are the ones that are creating the biggest stink.

I am so tired of such Politically Correct BS. My heritage is from the North and I am not a racist but I am almost compelled to fly the 'Stars and Bars' in protest.

I really hope that doesn't happen and I think that would be taking things too far.

All of a sudden because a psychologically challenged individual uses it in a photo and now it's racist. Some one asked me the other day, if I saw someone stomp on the Confederate flag would I cheer them on. No absolutely not, I'd probably stomp on them. The Confederacy is part of our history. Pulling/banning the Confederate flag is stupid. They can shove their PC where the sun doesn't shine. Are they going to insist those with Confederate flag tattoos remove them because if they approached my husband about the one on his arm, God help them.

Never saw the Confederate flag ~~ only the Battle Flaf of the Army of Northern VA. It was not political correctness it was a rediculous reaction by racists and uneducated. Sadly, people do not know the history of the south or US.

IMHO Political correctness is an open invitation to hypocrisy. It requires people to use terms and phrases to dance around what they are actually saying. Is there anyone who does not know what someone actually means when they use "the 'N' word" rather than the actual word?

I feel that the confederate battle flag in my flag collection is one of the best looking I have. That is totally separate from the baggage it has accumulated by being used as a symbol of white supremacy. I would no longer display it since I think it is wrong to do something I know would hurt innocent peoples feelings, just as I no longer would use the "the 'N' word".

Actual empathy is a better answer than political correctness.

I wonder if TV Land will refuse to run Hogan's Heroes as wellsince it involved Nazis? Perhap this PC push will have a backlash and America will grow a backbone and say "enough is enough!"

All confederate flags should be taken down and all monuments come rating traitors who fought for slavery against the union too. As for communities that is up to them.

There is good cause to have discussion and to reflect on our history and actions in order to learn from them and not repeat them.

But when discussions lose their sight and grip on common sense ... and those having the discussions start to act in a self-serving manner in order to make personal gain and score points against others, it's a disservice to us all.  

The craziness that's taken place over the last week or so just seems so disrespectful to those that lost their lives in that church.

Very good question. Having lived in Alabama for 6 years, there is a lot of pride in the  history there, good and bad.  They treasure their wins both in their history and sports. I doubt those would be renamed as they don't view as negative as the rest of the country feels it. 

Yes, I'm sure of it. They've renamed Columbus Day. In Taos NM they recently renamed a park that was formerly called Kit Carson Park because the name was offensive. These days no one can ever say anything that might possibly be offensive to anyone.
