John Meussner - great question! I'd say about 5 years or so, after that I felt I knew I can 'manage' myself!

Three years. I got in the business and learned and took classes and read books. I felt pretty confident by then and though I didn't know everything, I knew where to turn to get the information.

hmmmmm... at least 5 -6 years. I am currently in my 11th year and I experience new situatons repeatedly. Perhaps what has changed the most is that I now trust my judgment...and know when to ask for help.

Day one - I never understood why agents spoke about themselves like they were children. If you go through real estate school today and you work with someone who went through last year there is a difference. Laws change and deals change, as long as you are kind and honest you have something to offer.

This is why agents still learn after 30 years in the business. Things will always change because our culture is moving in several different directions. If you are not a life-long learner, real estate may not be right for you.

I have eight years in, and I just now feel like my experience is the X factor for the clients I represent.  After showing 400+ houses a year X 8 years, that is a lot of experience I bring to the table.

That being said, I still learn something new from every transaction, when I dont know something, I ask and learn.  I walk away from each home inspection I attend, with more knowledge and things to look for as a agent.  I sincerely hope I continue to learn until the day I retire.  As agents, I feel some land into trouble when they think they know everything.  Good question.

I hit the ground running when the market was smoking hot in 2000.  I'd say within a short 2 or 3 years I felt comfortable.  On the 6th year, I opened my own real estate company.

It was about 3 years for me.  I was in a company where most of the Agents didn't work Real Estate full time. This was my fulltime job so I had to work it everyday.

7 years. They say that 7 and 10 is the important numbers if you work in the same business or do the same activity. After 7 years, I felt that I've seen it all!

Just before my first anniversary as a REALTOR(r) I tackled short sales. By year three I knew I could handle any situation I walked in to.

John- We always pull from our "life" and other work experiences but as for staging, I still think I'm learning.
