Leanne Paynter ~ Broward County, FL - not yet - it is not legally approved by FAA - and it is expensive otherwise. but soon I will.

Leanne, I have my own drone, a Phontom Vision 2 plus, and pilot it my self. A fairly easy task with some practice.
Yes, Coastal properties are very impressive however, aerial videos or still photos of ANYTHING can be breathtaking.
Also. it's an effective listing tool.

Joan - I think it's especially important on high-end homes to include at least one aerial. Even on mid-priced properties it should be done if it highlights something important such as location or view.

John McCormack - That's interesting. Why do you think it's not done much in your market? I would think it would set agents apart from the average, especially if the property warrants it such as a farm/ranch, waterfront, etc.

Aerial photos are an absolute must for property that has some land. And to me they should be put up front in the photo gallery not at the very end.

I am getting ready to put on a listing that has a nice pool and tennis court on 2 acres - I will do an aerial shot for that - but it is rare around here to have a big enough property that warrants an aerial shot.

I did aerial photos of a listing recently that was high on a hill and provided great mountain views. Usually only for those high-end homes.

Hi Leanne, I utilize aerial photos as often a practical. In the past I used the services of a plane. I now get very high quality and effect videos and stills with a drone.

Praful Thakkar - I didn't necessarily mean with the use of drones as aerial photographers can be found in many parts throughout the country. Perhaps their prices will become more reasonable if/when drones are legally allowed for commercial use. In cases where it's a higher-end property, especially on a large lot or if it's waterfront or golf-course front, I would think aerial photos should give a listing agent an edge. I've even seen a few agents use a device that allows photos to be taken from around a 20+/- foot perspective... sort of like a really long selfie-stick.

With aerial views easily available in tax records, on Google Earth and Mapquest and probably lots of other places, one does not have to have a drone or a helicopter or pay for the photos.

Jaretta - I think with as many photos as many 20-somethings take, they are used to seeing things from all (or different) angles and perhaps have more of an interest in aerial photos.

Barbara - I agree with you that they are (or should be) a must for properties that include a lot of land and also that the aerial photos sometimes make more sense to be included near the front of the photo gallery instead of last.

Jeff - I'm actually a bit surprised to hear that very few sellers are interested in aerial photos, especially if their property is on a large lot, waterfront or backs up to a golf course.

Nina - I guess my thinking is that although it's not really "necessary", it likely gives listing agents who include aerial photos (especially on higher end listings or ones that are waterfront) an edge.

Russ - with as many lakefront properties as are in your area, I'm surprised it doesn't bring results due to the "wow" factor.

Larry - I think it's only a matter of time before more & more people use drones. I'm just not sure it won't cause some problems as the laws just don't seem to keep up with emerging technologies.

Lise - it makes perfect sense to include an aerial photo on properties that are 2 acres, and especially if they include amenities such as the listing you're getting which has a pool and tennis court. I think many properties that are waterfront (lake, river, intracoastal, ocean) could benefit from an aerial photo even if it's not on a large lot.

Praful Thakkar makes an excellent point and an obvious one. Drone photography for commercial use is still awaiting FAA approval and NAR is warning members to wait until that approval is confirmed.

Bob Publicover - I think in Florida (especially with coastal properties) it makes sense. I'm curious... do you operate the drone yourself or hire someone who does that for a living?

I do not, but since some of my buyers are 20 somthing, I think that I will send phoots upon request.

No. I ask sellers, and very few are interested in aerial photos, and very few buyers are interested in seeing a propery from 100' + up looking down on a house. If it's a 30+ acre farm, then maybe.

To-date, I've done no aerial photos for my listings. Haven't found it necessary to get my homes sold.

No I do not. I need to do more of that. It is just an added cost I cannot say it brings big results

Since I don't have a helicopter and I can't use a drone yet, I have not had the opportunity to take aerial photos.
