I try to tailor the gift to the client so I listen during the transaction and determine what would be remembered, needed and appreciated. It is not always the same amount or the same gift. People are different and so are their needs.

The gift that allows the client to celebrate this new chapter in their lives.
This is when listening without arguing and being interested instead of needing to be interesting becomes crucial.
I listen with interest to them, wanting the hear the song they have inside, then creating the safe space for them to sing.
Often this is an introduction to a writing group or art class. For one is was an introduction to the director of a local theatre group. For another, a time of kicking and screaming as they particiapted in a swamp walk. In all, each realized a dream they've always had, but never thought in could survive in the sunlight.
It changed their lives.
It touched my life.
It is why I do this.

That's a good question, but I think closing gifts vary from client to client based on the little things you learn about them; likes, etc. And I don't always get closing gifts, just for the folks that I really enjoyed working with. But yeah, I personalize to what I've learned about them; likes, etc.
Recently I started thinking that I really wanted something that will become a conversation piece to anyone that comes into my clients' homes, something that could result in "Where'd you get that?" "My realtor got that for me". So I now order personalized 18" round wood wall hangings that include the family name, names of the family members across the top, then est. XYZ year at the bottom. On the back I use a paint pen and write a little thank you blurb with my contact info. This way as people see the personalized family sign on a wall, not only will it trigger their memory of me, but they might even pull my info off the back for someone else, even if it's just to see who I ordered the sign from. And the gift is cheap - $75 - but looks very nice, a bit hit, and my info will also be on the back! I'll attach a pic. Comes in diff colors and sizes. There is no such thing. It should be somewhat personalized to the individual client and the individual agent (depending on budgetary constrictions). I don't personally believe in giving expensive gifts--does your doctor give you a gift or your lawyer or CPA for doing business with them.

I like something with shelf life. I like to give the atomic clocks that tell the indoor and outdoor temps and more. I also give a book that makes it easy for buyers to keep track of remodels and projects they do on the house. You can record paint numbers, ect, and save receipts.

We are a resort area and many of our buyers are coming in from the north. I usually give a book about local history, written by a local author. Or, a local cookbook to the ones I know love to cook. I try to keep it to supporting local businesses.
