For the same reason when Bob Dillon comes to town that poster imaget is not a current image. 5th Dimension coming to Florida State Fair, the images on the advertising is the one they want us to remember, not who will be on stage.
The purpose of the real estate agent image is it get the face to face where you solidify the relationship. Those mega agents, those divas of real estate don't seem to be suffering a bit from projecting the image they want the consumer to remember.
Look at the results. They speak for themselves.

I update my pictures as needed, but as long as people who don't know me immediately say "you look just like your picture" when they meet me face to face, I know my picture is ok.

Mine is, Mark Don McInnes, Sandpoint about 4 years old - though not much of change at this age in me and people don't ask me - is that you?

My current photo is three months old. I usually upload a new one every two years or when my hair changes drastically. I want people who see me to be able to recognize me...

Mine's a couple years old but not too dated. I can never decided whether or not I like having a beard, so sometimes I look like my picture, sometimes I dont. Mine could probably use an update.

Debbie Gartner I did not realize a picture could disrupt placement. Of course that should not be surprising for as little as I know about Google + etc. Mark

Annette Lawrence completely different business in my opinion but many must feel the same way you do for exactly what David & Lisa Webber say of a local agent. It is always interesting. Thanks for commenting. Mark

We keep ours recent so we look like our pictures. No particular amount of time but certainly not 20 years! There's a classic one in our area that everyone knows. "Top" Realtor whose photo is likely at least 25 years old, maybe 30. She uses it on everything so you certainly know when a listing is hers. The sad thing is it looks nothing like her. I was in a settlement for 20 minutes with my buyers and the sellers and I thought the old lady sitting next to them was their grandmother! In her photos she's a glamorous woman with her hair all done up, make up done, nice clothing and in person, the gray roots were about 3" long, shoulder length ratty looking hair, oversized coat and unflattering clothes. Not trying to judge but you know people do judge us within the first 30 seconds upon meeting us and I was very, very surprised, not only that she does not keep herself up as she did 25 or 30 years ago, but also that she continues to use the photo that literally looks nothing at all like her. We all age and not that I'm going to be rocking the gray hair or anything (that stuff gets covered! LOL), but we will be keeping ourselves up as well as possible and will continue to use current photos. And I instructed my children to let me know when I need a makeover! Nothing worse than meeting someone and introducing ourselves and having them be shocked! : )

Not as recent as it should be. People tell me I look like my photo, but I pretty much think they're liars.

I change them about every 3 years. We have some in our office the picture is at least 20 years ago. You end up wondering who they are when you meet them.

My photo is just over one year old, and our photos should be updated, especially with new hairdos, etc.

I think mine is about 4 yrs old, so maybe soon I should change mine. But, I like the consistency of the image (and goes w/ my logo). It is everywhere (including my website header (which is challenging to change). I am a bit afraid that if/when I change, it may change some of my placement in google. I was more worried about that before w/ google authorship.
But, I may experiment w/ this and see what happens if I change it on my google plus profile first.
Thankfully, most people recognize me.
