Not that often, maybe ever 3 years. I recently bought a new iPad, and I made the decision based on how light it is. When we travel we both are reading articles and books we have downloaded, and for ease of moving out of the airplane faster, I put both of them in my purse. The old iPad was quite heavy and I could not wait to get it out of my purse...It also has improved over the old one.

Patricia, I buy a new laptap every 2-3 years, as this is what I take with me to meet with clients and want to stay on top of the new trends. My desktop is about 4 years old. The camera is probably needing replacement too - about 4 years old.
