Cameras are indeed legal to have and use even in a hidden fashion within or outside your own home, but not where there is really an expectation of privacy...like in the bathroom. Some sellers do not like their restrooms being used for whatever the reason and so the agents must oblige or face the owner's evil wrath! (Unless the agent is doing this on their own...than the agent is probably just a control freak).

Doyle,
can you please post a link to that blog post? Is it on AR? I'm curious where is that house?

Lol, I think it is overkill. Do these people have guests over? I would feel very uncomfortable to have an open house or showings knowing about those cameras being everywhere. But now when I'm thinking about it, how many times I did not know about those cameras even if there were watching me....? Yucks:(

Gee, Doyle! This sounds like a great way to get a listing sold or pick up a new buyer or seller! If they gotta go, I'd really rather they use the loo.

If in the restroom for medicine cabinet thieves, it would be best to have a warning sign.

I do not encourage visitors to use the facilities whether at an open house or while showing homes.

Prospective purchasers should be warned that cameras may be present in homes they visit. They are becoming more and more common.

Cameras are legal to be hidden but the recording of sound is illegal unless it is posted. As far as the bathroom, i dont think it is ever ok to use a bathroom at an open house unless it was asked for before the open house and the owner said ok.

I would not naswer any legal question and suggest they ask an attorney in their state.

I believe it is legal, it is their home, however I believe if there is audio they can not use it in court. I don't know if they post signs whether or not they can use it in court.

Doyle,
I second Patricia Kennedy 's comment. Based on that, if I were a buyer and wanted to buy that house, I would pass...Yikes! A
