I suggest only joining ones that you are passionate about so people in that organization will recognize your passion as a professional. I have joined and received business from the Greater Boise Chamber of Commerce, Building Contractors Association of Southwest Idaho, and the Boise Valley Habitat For Humanity. I have also closed several referrals thanks to the Council of Residential Specialists (CRS).

I am on the board of my neighborhood association, and support several local environmental initiatives. I have had additional listings in my neighborhood, but they are not directly related to my involvement. I believe that it will help in due time, though.

I am active in my local Chamber, which leads not only to referral business, but also interview opportunities. Plus, it keeps me in the know about Jacksonville, FL, which is a fabulous resource for relocation buyers, blogging, elevator conversations, etc.

Identify in your life what you are passionate about.
Support with your time and money an organization that is involved with that passion.
This is simply what a good human being would do.
The universe will respond in a overwhelmingly positive fashion to those who maintain fidelity to their commitments. When you have reconciled your commitment is warranted whether you business benefits or not, THEN your business will benefit.
The produce of your business is a byproduct of core value. Don't chase the byproduct but stay vigilantly focused on the tenants of the values that define you. Express that value by pursing an honorable activity through an association whose mission is something for which you have passion.
Write this down.
"If you are unwilling to move mountains for others, they will be unwilling to move mountains for you."
As hard as it appears to be to find time and space to make compassionate works a part of one's life, it is the mountain you must move.
Choose to take action that releives the hurt another expereinces. It will change moe than one life.

Jim Paulson, completely agree! It's easy to tell when someone has ulterior motives for their involvement in an organization. I'm working towards my ABR designation now and look forward to learning more about other Realtor referral networks.

I've been a member of Rotary for many years and through the relationships with other Rotarians do see a fair amount of business. I no longer belong to the Chamber.

Haven't done that yet. Still too busy with work and living my life and looking out for my family to have time for the rest of " those things" even though I know I should
