We were looking to escape from the 'rat race' of Southern California when we feel in love with the Coarsegold/Oakhurst communities. Since my husband, Norm, had a long history with Toyota, we knew we had to be close to a good-sized city for him to continue his career as a Toyota Asst. Service Manager. So we settled in Coarsegold, since Fresno was only 30 minutes away. He loved his 'quick' commute, as he had grown accustomed to a 17-mile drive taking almost an hour in south Orange County!
But it was the family atmosphere that impressed us most. We found many had moved here, like us, for the quality life-style and great schools in the area. My youngest was born here, and he's now graduating from High School here! He plans on continuing at the Community College in Oakhurst.
I'm happy my kids don't judge others by their make of automobile or clothing labels, but by their personality. We've found long-time friends who focus on traditional family values and enjoy all the great recreation available to us. We still find time to enjoy hikes and picnics in our beautiful mountains, frequent trips into Yosemite and beyond to Mammoth Lakes. We've discovered the 'hidden lakes' that the tourist miss, as well as the great local entertainment, such as 'Jazz on the Lake' in the summer. The area is rich with history, including the gold-panning '49ers and dignitaries gracing our area on their route to Yosemite.
