In the summer of 1995, a new and unusual community newspaper made its first appearance. That first issue of "Gold Coast Journal, Montecito's hometown newspaper" featured 16 pages and no advertising, but was chockfull of local news, something that Montecito had been without for over a year. The second issue, we became "Montecito Journal", and have enjoyed 11 years (and counting) of publishing success. Beginning with 5,000 copies once a month, the Journal has grown to 12,000 every week: remarkable in a community with only 10,000 residents.
12,000 circulation weekly: Montecito Journal is by far the most widely read and distributed publication in Montecito, with nearly 8,000 copies distributed between here and Summerland. An additional 4,000 copies are targeted to the beachfront, downtown Santa Barbara, Goleta, Carpinteria, and Santa Ynez Valley. Diligent observation of distribution sites insures advertisers there are always less than 3% returns.
